Multi-block data integration analysis for identifying and validating targeted N-glycans as biomarkers for type II diabetes mellitus

Eric Adua et al.

Summary: Plasma N-glycan profiles were found to be defective in type II diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and could potentially serve as biomarkers. The study used high-performance liquid chromatography to analyze N-glycans and employed the multivariate integrative framework DIABLO for statistical analysis. Certain N-glycan groups showed significant expression differences between T2DM and healthy controls, and a bipartite relevance network highlighted the importance of specific N-glycans in discriminating T2DM from healthy individuals.

N-glycosylation profiling of Type 2 diabetes mellitus from baseline to follow-up: an observational study in a Ghanaian population

Eric Adua et al.

Summary: The study found that N-glycan profiles among Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients remained stable over a 6-month period, with a small range of variability and insignificant intra-individual variations in most peaks. This suggests that N-glycan profiles could be a reliable tool for monitoring biochemical changes related to Type 2 diabetes mellitus comorbidities.

Early gestational profiling of oxidative stress and angiogenic growth mediators as predictive, preventive and personalised (3P) medical approach to identify suboptimal health pregnant mothers likely to develop preeclampsia

Enoch Odame Anto et al.

Summary: This study analyzed early gestational biomarkers of oxidative stress and angiogenic growth mediators as a method for early diagnosis of PE subtypes. It found that pregnant women with suboptimal health status have a higher incidence of PE, with imbalanced levels of OS and AGMs at 10-20 weeks gestation. Early profiling of OS and AGMs allows for early differentiation of PE subtypes in high-risk pregnant women.

Construct validity of the Suboptimal Health Status Questionnaire-25 in a Ghanaian population

Eric Adua et al.

Summary: This study used Structural Equation Modelling to investigate the construct validity of the SHS-Q-25 in a Ghanaian population. The findings showed that the extracted domains were reliable, with excellent model fit indices, but there were issues with discriminant validity. The three-domain model was found to be invariant across age groups, making SHS-Q-25 a potentially useful screening tool in developing countries.

All around suboptimal health - a joint position paper of the Suboptimal Health Study Consortium and European Association for Predictive, Preventive and Personalised Medicine

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: The first two decades of the 21st century are marked by a rise in non-communicable diseases, causing immense socio-economic burden and a decrease in the age of maladaptive individuals. These chronic conditions progress over time and can lead to irreversible severe complications. Advanced strategies in bio/medical sciences and healthcare are focusing on suboptimal health conditions within the framework of Predictive, Preventive, and Personalized Medicine. Various medical areas are proposed to strongly benefit from these strategies, including stress overload associated pathologies, male and female health, and planned pregnancies.

Network Analysis of Outpatients to Identify Predictive Symptoms and Combinations of Symptoms Associated With Positive/Negative SARS-CoV-2 Nasopharyngeal Swabs

Herve Spechbach et al.

Summary: This cohort study in Geneva, Switzerland, identified early clinical symptoms predictive of positive or negative SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR results, with anosmia being the strongest predictor for a positive test. Symptoms like breathing difficulties, abdominal symptoms, thoracic pain, and runny nose were associated with a negative test. The study also found three distinct networks of symptoms including respiratory symptoms, systemic symptoms related to fever, and other systemic symptoms related to anosmia, which could help guide targeted testing for COVID-19.
