Mechanical Behavior and Constitutive Model Characterization of Optically Clear Adhesive in Flexible Devices

Yuexin Zhang et al.

Summary: The mechanical properties of optically clear adhesive (OCA) are greatly influenced by temperature, with stress and modulus decreasing rapidly as temperature increases. The established constitutive models can be used as design references and for product reliability evaluation in the manufacturing process.

Measurement of effective cure shrinkage of epoxy-based molding compound by fiber Bragg grating sensor using two-stage curing process

Changsu Kim et al.

Summary: A two-stage curing process has been developed to measure the effective cure shrinkage in an epoxy-based molding compound using an embedded fiber Bragg grating sensor. Technical considerations were taken to ensure uniform curing and accurate measurement of the EMC with a filler content of 88 wt%, resulting in a measured ECS value of 0.077% with confirmed repeatability.

Theoretical modeling and calculation of stress fields in precision optical lens subjected to multi-point adhesive bonding assembly

Jian Xiong et al.

Summary: This research established a theoretical mechanical model of an optical lens and proposed a novel stress potential function to derive the analytical solution of stress components in lenses under an arbitrary number of multipoint radial stresses. The results revealed a quantitative relationship between the radial stress in the adhesive and the stress field in the optical lens. By developing a new experimental device and proposing a systematic experimental method, the accuracy and validity of the proposed theoretical model were further verified.

Effects of loading rate, temperature, and thickness on the tensile strength of precision adhesive joints

Lei Guo et al.

Summary: The influences of micron bondline thickness, temperature, and loading rate on the tensile strength of adhesive joints in precision adhesive structures were studied. The results showed that the tensile strength initially increased and then linearly decreased with bondline thickness, with the peak strength occurring at a thickness of approximately 30 μm. The maximum tensile strength increased by 28.6% as thickness increased from 10 to 30 μm at a loading rate of 1 mm/min. The tensile strength decreased by more than 33% at different bondline thicknesses as temperature increased from -30 to 110 degrees C. Reducing bondline thickness to less than 10 μm resulted in a weak bonding interface. The tensile strength increased with loading rate, exhibiting a strain-rate hardening effect below the T-g. The plastic-damage characteristic became clearer on the fractured surface as temperature increased.

Effects of surface treatment and adhesive thickness on the shear strength of precision bonded joints

Lei Guo et al.

Summary: The study found that different surface treatments have an impact on the bond strength of single-lap-joint specimens, with PAA treatment significantly improving the bond strength. Additionally, bond strength is not only determined by surface roughness value or wettability, but also by surface characteristics such as peak density, nano-scale pores, and texture direction.

Micro-stress bonding analysis of high precision and lightweight mirrors

Songnian Tan et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an analysis method for mirror bonding, establishing the functional relationship between the shrinkage of the adhesive layer and the shape accuracy of the mirror numerically. By designing the structural form of the optical mounting and setting an appropriate stiffness ratio, the theoretical surface shape accuracy change can be determined. The surface shape accuracy of the mirror after bonding is found to be 0.020 lambda, making this approach useful in mirror design applications that require rapid preparation and accuracy control.
