Influences of L-ascorbic acid on cytotoxic, biochemical, and genotoxic damages caused by copper II oxide nanoparticles in the rainbow trout gonad cells-2

Semra Cicek

Summary: With the increasing use of copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) in various industries, there is an increasing concern about their release to the environment and toxicity. This study aimed to investigate the mechanism of CuO NPs-induced damage and the potential protective role of L-ascorbic acid in rainbow trout gonad cells. Treatment with CuO NPs significantly reduced cell viability, but supplementing with L-ascorbic acid reversed this effect. L-ascorbic acid also reversed the changes in gene expressions induced by CuO NPs and influenced the expression of growth-related genes.

Association between IGF-1 levels ranges and all-cause mortality: A meta-analysis

Jamal Rahmani et al.

Summary: The association between IGF-1 levels and all-cause mortality is complex, with both low and high levels being associated with increased mortality risk. This meta-analysis found that higher IGF-1 levels were not associated with increased all-cause mortality compared to low levels. However, there was a U-shaped relationship between IGF-1 levels and mortality risk, with both low and high IGF-1 levels increasing the risk compared to middle levels. A specific range of 120-160 ng/ml was associated with the lowest mortality risk.

Riboflavin is an antioxidant: a review update

Nafisa Olfat et al.

Summary: Aerobic organisms require antioxidant defense systems to deal with free radicals, and oxidative stress is involved in the development of various chronic diseases. Enhancing antioxidant potential is considered a strategy for preventing and managing such conditions. Studies have found that riboflavin can alleviate oxidative stress, but its therapeutic efficacy as an antioxidant needs further investigation.

Recombinant nanobody against MUC1 tandem repeats inhibits growth, invasion, metastasis, and vascularization of spontaneous mouse mammary tumors

Parnaz Merikhian et al.

Summary: Alterations in glycosylation pattern of MUC1 mucin tandem repeats during carcinomas negatively affect adhesive properties of malignant cells and enhance tumor invasiveness and metastasis. MUC1 overexpression is closely related to angiogenesis, making it a significant target for immunotherapy. The recombinant nanobody targeting MUC1 tandem repeats showed promise in suppressing tumor growth, invasion, and metastasis.

Summary: This study reveals that ETFA haploinsufficiency leads to hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia, hepatic steatosis, and injury in adult zebrafish. Reduction in levels of FAD and glutathione, as well as an increase in reactive oxygen species, was observed in mutant livers. Riboflavin supplementation counteracted these effects, highlighting the role of FAD depletion in hepatic steatosis and oxidative stress-mediated liver injury.
