Study on hydrodynamics characteristics in a gas-liquid stirred tank with a self-similarity impeller based on CFD-PBM coupled model

Deyin Gu et al.

Summary: In this study, a self-similarity impeller was utilized to enhance the gas-liquid dispersion process. Computational fluid dynamics simulation combined with a population balance model was employed to investigate the hydrodynamics of gas-liquid dispersion in a stirred tank with Rushton turbine and self-similarity impeller. The results showed that the self-similarity impeller could improve the gas dispersion efficiency and enhance the uniformity of gas holdup distribution compared to the Rushton turbine.

Enhancement of Macromixing Performance of a Stirred Tank with a Novel V-Shaped Punched Baffle

Lele Xu et al.

Summary: A V-shaped punched baffle (VSPB) is developed to enhance fluid mixing in a stirred tank. Experimental results show that VSPB reduces mixing time by a maximum of 23% and 14.7% compared to standard baffles (SB) and standard punched baffles (SPB) at low speeds. Simulation results demonstrate that the punched baffle significantly increases fluid velocity and turbulence in the baffle region, forming tiny vortices.

Multi-objective optimization of a tubular heat exchanger enhanced with delta winglet vortex generator and nanofluid using a hybrid CFD-SVR method

Seyed Mahdi Ekrani et al.

Summary: The present study improves the thermal-hydraulic performance of a circular tube equipped with a delta winglet vortex generator by using a numerical model, investigating two additional parameters, and developing a support vector regression (SVR) for prediction and optimization. The presence of delta winglets disrupts the boundary layer and creates swirling flow, leading to enhanced heat transfer but also increased pressure drop. The addition of SiO2 as a nanofluid further enhances heat transfer. The results of this study provide insights into the best arrangement of delta winglets for a tubular heat exchanger.

CFD simulation and experimental analysis of solid-liquid mixing characteristics in a stirred tank with a self-similarity impeller

Deyin Gu et al.

Summary: In this study, a self-similarity impeller based on Hibert curves was introduced to intensify the solid-liquid chaotic mixing process. The hydrodynamics of solid-liquid mixing process in a stirred tank with different impellers were investigated through experimental analyses and numerical simulation. The results showed that the self-similarity impeller consumed less power compared with the conventional pitched-blade impeller, improved the largest Lyapunov exponent (LLE) value, and enhanced the solid particle suspension quality and turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate.

CFD simulation of hydrodynamics characteristics in a tank with forward-reverse rotating impeller

Liangchao Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of a forward-reverse rotating impeller in an unbaffled tank on flow field and power characteristics. The findings revealed that the fluid in the unbaffled tank flows periodically with the forward-reverse impeller agitation, resulting in zonal flow phenomenon. The effects of operating conditions on instantaneous fluid velocity vary with positions in the tank. The flow field characteristics in the forward-reverse agitated unbaffled tank are significantly different from those in constant agitated unbaffled and baffled tanks.
