Urinary Incontinence and Depressive Symptoms: The Mediating Role of Physical Activity and Social Engagement

Gum-Ryeong Park et al.

Summary: This study explores the longitudinal association between urinary incontinence (UI) and depressive symptoms in older women, and investigates the mediating role of physical activity and social engagement in this association. The results show that UI is positively associated with depressive symptoms among older women, but this association becomes statistically insignificant when considering the decrease in physical activity and disruption in social engagement. This highlights the threat of UI to the psychological well-being of older women and emphasizes the importance of promoting physical and social activities.

Associations Between Active Mobility Index and Disability

Takehiko Doi et al.

Summary: This study developed a questionnaire-based Active Mobility Index (AMI) to assess going-out behavior with physical and social activity among older adults. The findings showed that lower AMI scores were associated with more depressive symptoms, frailty, cognitive impairment, and a higher risk of incident disability.

Association between Active Mobility Index and sarcopenia among Japanese community-dwelling older adults

Satoshi Kurita et al.

Summary: The study examined the association between life space with physical and social activities and sarcopenia in community-dwelling older adults in Japan. The results showed that the extent of life space with physical activity was linked to sarcopenia. A longitudinal study is necessary to determine the impact of life space with physical and social activities on the development of sarcopenia.
