IMPROVING CONSTRUCTION SAFETY WITH VIRTUAL-DESIGN CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGIES - A REVIEW

Muneeb Afzal et al.

Summary: The construction industry faces major safety hazards due to the complex and on-site nature of projects, but the application of Virtual Design Construction (VDC) technologies, such as BIM, VR, AR, GIS, and gaming technology, has shown significant potential for improving safety management practices. By digitizing safety procedures, VDC technologies enable safety managers to visualize and analyze construction sites virtually, allowing for proactive safety measures and effective safety training. However, challenges remain in terms of research gaps and the widespread adoption of these digital tools in construction safety.

Validity and reliability of a wearable insole pressure system for measuring gait parameters to identify safety hazards in construction

Maxwell Fordjour Antwi-Afari et al.

Summary: The study compared the performance of WIPS-based gait parameters with a reference system (WIMUs) for distinguishing safety hazards in construction, finding comparable results in terms of error measurements. The validity and test-retest reliability of measuring WIPS-based gait parameters were confirmed to be good, highlighting the potential of WIPS as a noninvasive wearable sensing system for construction safety research.

A Smart Helmet-Based PLS-BPNN Error Compensation Model for Infrared Body Temperature Measurement of Construction Workers during COVID-19

Li Li et al.

Summary: A smart helmet equipped with an infrared temperature sensor was developed in this study to track and monitor body temperature of construction personnel. A PLS-BPNN temperature error compensation model was established to correct temperature measurement results, which showed higher accuracy and reliability with a determination coefficient of 0.99377. The model reduced the relative average error of infrared body temperature by 2.745°C and RMSE by 0.9849, with a relative error range of only 0.005~0.143°C in temperature detection.
