Facile synthesis of 2D covalent organic frameworks for cooperative photocatalysis with TEMPO: The selective aerobic oxidation of benzyl amines

Xia Li et al.

Summary: 2D covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have recently shown promise as versatile photoactive functional materials. In this study, three 8-ketoenamine linked 2D COFs were successfully assembled, with Tp-BTD-25 exhibiting superior activity for photocatalytic oxidation reactions at lower temperature. The addition of TEMPO enhanced both stability and activity of the photocatalyst.

Neelam Gupta et al.

Summary: In this study, Cu2O nanocrystals were synthesized with different morphologies and their photocatalytic activity towards organic substrates was explored. The reaction mechanism involving specific surfaces of Cu2O nanocrystals was proposed based on chemical kinetics experiments, electrochemical analyses, and DFT calculations. The cubic morphology showed the highest activity.

An efficient electrochemical oxidation of C(sp3)-H bond for the synthesis of arylketones

Jingyang Kong et al.

Summary: An efficient electrochemical oxidation of C-H (sp(3)) bond was developed using a carbon rod as the anode and a platinum counter electrode in an undivided cell. With water as the co-solvent and sole oxygen source, numerous arylketones were synthesized in good yields. The electrochemical reaction mechanism and the preparation of a key intermediate in the pharmaceutical dyclonine were also investigated.

Time-resolved EPR revealed C(sp3)-H activation through a photo-enhanced phthalimide-N-oxyl (PINO) radical

Xiao-Hui Liu et al.

Summary: The time-resolved electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) technique has been used to investigate the fast formation of long-lived PINO radicals and their activation of the C(sp(3))-H process under operando photochemical conditions. This method provides an efficient strategy for studying the properties and transformations of radical species in photoredox reactions.

Unveiling the highly disordered NbO6 units as electron-transfer sites in Nb2O5 photocatalysis with N-hydroxyphthalimide under visible light irradiation

Kaiyi Su et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of different NbOx units in Nb2O5 catalysts in the activation of C-H bond under visible light irradiation using N-hydroxyphthalimide (NHPI) as a probe molecule. The results demonstrate that Nb2O5 catalysts with highly disordered NbO6 units exhibit higher activity compared to those with slightly disordered NbO6 units.

Aerobic oxidation of methane to formaldehyde mediated by crystal-O over gold modified tungsten trioxide via photocatalysis

Shilei Wei et al.

Summary: A direct photocatalytic conversion of methane to formaldehyde over gold modified cuboid-shaped tungsten trioxide with exposed crystal-O facets has been reported, achieving high productivity and selectivity of formaldehyde under room temperature conditions. The activation of C-H bonds in methane by high spin state crystal-O ions, combined with the extraction of photoexcited electrons by metallic gold, results in efficient formation of formaldehyde. Isotopic tests confirm the origin of formaldehyde from the combination of methane and crystal-O on the exposed facets.

Engineering BiOBrx I1-x solid solutions with enhanced singlet oxygen production for photocatalytic benzylic C-H bond activation mediated by N-hydroxyl compounds

Yucui Bian et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the visible light-driven photocatalytic activation of benzylic C-H bonds using N-hydroxysuccinimide over BiOBrxI1-x solid solutions. The optimized BiOBr0.85I0.15 catalyst showed significantly higher conversion ratios compared to pure BiOBr and BiOI, attributed to orbital hybridization in the valence band and improved charge carrier separation and singlet oxygen generation. This work provides insights for the rational design of photocatalysts for targeted organic transformations.

Cooperative photocatalysis of dye-TiO2 nanotubes with TEMPO+BF4- for selective aerobic oxidation of amines driven by green light

Jun Zhou et al.

Summary: Visible light photocatalysis, utilizing a cooperative system comprised of ARS, TNTs, and a redox mediator, achieves selective aerobic oxidation of primary and secondary amines. The electron transfer between oxidized ARS-TNTs and the redox mediator is crucial for cooperative photocatalysis, demonstrating the potential of designing redox mediators to enhance visible light-driven reactions.
