Genesis of the Baiyangping Cu-Co and Pb-Zn Mineralizations in Lanping Basin, SW China

Jiaxuan Zhu et al.

Summary: This study reports the fluid inclusion and isotopic analysis of the Baiyangping Cu-Co and Pb-Zn mineralization, providing insights into the origin of the mineralizing fluids and mineralizing processes. The mineralization is controlled by faults, thermochemical sulfate reduction, and the physicochemical conditions of the fluid.

Complete deformation history of the transition zone between oblique and orthogonal collision belts of the SE Tibetan Plateau: Crustal shortening and rotation caused by the indentation of India into Eurasia

Mingjuan Liang et al.

Summary: This article investigates the crustal deformation history of the Himalaya-Tibet and SE Tibetan Plateau regions resulting from the collision between India and Eurasia. The study reveals different stages of structures in the transitional zone between these collisional belts, with earlier structures exhibiting overturned dome-and-thrust pairs within open folding, and later structures consisting of thrust-and-tear-faults and open folds. By combining stratigraphic data and previous research, the complete crustal deformation history is reconstructed, involving early and late stages of crustal shortening separated by a middle stage of crustal rotation.

Origin of the Bleaching in Lower Cretaceous Continental Red Beds in the Uragen Zn-Pb Deposit, Xinjiang, NW China, and Its Implications for Zn-Pb Mineralization

Rongzhen Gao et al.

Summary: The Uragen sandstone-hosted Zn-Pb deposit has a large potential reserve and the mineralization may have occurred after the bleaching of the clastic rocks. The bleaching is mainly caused by the reductive dissolution of hematite pigment, which is likely related to the interaction with H2S formed by sulfate reduction. The red beds with abundant sulfates may act as sinks for leached ore metals during the bleaching process.

On the origin of bleaching phenomena in red bed sediments of Triassic Buntsandstein deposits in Central Germany

Michaela Aehnelt et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the geochemical composition of sandstones in the Lower Triassic Buntsandstein in Central Germany, combined with mineralogical data, to investigate the origin of various bleaching phenomena in primary red beds. The results indicate that the bleaching phenomena are diverse and linked to stages of diagenesis and different episodes of fluid flow.

New Insights into the Origin of the World-Class Jinding Sediment-Hosted Zn-Pb Deposit, Southwestern China: Evidence from LA-ICP-MS Analysis of Individual Fluid Inclusions

Lan Mu et al.

Summary: The Jinding deposit in the Lanping basin is the largest sandstone-hosted Zn deposit in the world, with fluid inclusions showing similar temperatures and salinities but significantly higher concentrations of ore metals in sphalerite compared to calcite. This suggests that sulfides were precipitated from a low-temperature, high-salinity, metal-rich fluid, while gangue minerals crystallized from fluids depleted in metals due to prior sulfide precipitation. The high salinities of the fluid inclusions are likely due to seawater evaporation and dissolution of evaporitic sequences during fluid percolation.

Metal Flux from Dissolution of Iron Oxide Grain Coatings in Sandstones

J. Parnell et al.

Summary: Iron oxide grain coatings in red sandstones contain trace metals that are released upon dissolution of the coatings. The dissolved metals may constitute an ore-forming fluid, aiding in the formation of red bed ore deposits.

Geological and geochemical characteristics of hydrothermal alteration in the Wangu deposit in the central Jiangnan Orogenic Belt and implications for gold mineralization

Wen Ma et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the bleaching phenomena in the Wangu gold deposit in northeastern Hunan, South China, and its relationship with gold mineralization. The bleaching is mainly caused by sericitization and carbonatization, with the development of siderite potentially leading to economic ore formation through chemical interactions with ore fluids. Sulfidation of siderite is identified as the major mechanism for gold mineralization within the bleached slates, leading to the destruction of Au-S complexes.
