Megaripple mechanics: bimodal transport ingrained in bimodal sands

Katharina Tholen et al.

Summary: In this study, a quantitative model is used to derive a unified phase diagram for aeolian sand transport and megaripple morphodynamics. A quantitative signature of bimodal aeolian transport is discovered, which is supported by comprehensive analysis of terrestrial and extraterrestrial data.

Granule Ripples in the Kumtagh Desert, China: Morphological and Sedimentary Characteristics, and Development Processes

Qingjie Han et al.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between granule ripple development, morphology, and the surface grain-size distribution in China's Kumtagh Desert. An exponential relationship between ripple wavelength and average crest particle size was found, challenging previous results. The study also established a new conceptual model for the development of large granule ripples. Additionally, the missing particles in the ripple crests were quantified, which may have implications for predicting regional wind speeds and identifying wind conditions on Mars.

Migration of barchan dunes and factors that influence migration in the Sanlongsha dune field of the northern Kumtagh Sand Sea, China

Zhuanling Yang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the seasonal and annual migration of barchan dunes in the Sanlongsha dune field in China's Kumtagh Sand Sea, finding variations in migration rates and directions influenced by wind intensity and dune size. The research enhances understanding of sand dune evolution and migration mechanisms, providing theoretical guidance for windbreak and sand fixation projects and dynamic monitoring of desertification.
