Farm diversity impacts on food production, income generation and environmental preservation: The Swiss case

Dario Pedolin et al.

Summary: This study assessed 239 farm year observations of Swiss farms to analyze the relationship between environmental and economic performance and correlations between product groups. There were no trade-offs between environmental efficiency and economic performance, and synergies were found in some product groups. Organic farming systems performed better in terms of both environmental and economic efficiency. However, the mountain region had lower environmental performance and productivity.

Variability of greenhouse gas emissions and economic performances on 10 Piedmontese beef farms in North Italy

Dennis Bonnin et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the environmental impacts and economic performances of beef production by analyzing data from commercial farms in Northern Italy over a 4-year period. The results show a high variability in environmental impacts and economic performances between farms and years, with a negative correlation between environmental and economic sustainability. Efficient production practices, including improvements in productive efficiency and feed self-sufficiency, are recommended to reduce environmental impacts and achieve good economic results in beef farms. Further research involving a larger farm sample and different production systems is needed to confirm these findings.

Role of sustainability attributes and occasion matters in determining consumers' beef choice

Pedro Carvalho Burnier et al.

Summary: The study evaluates the influence of socio-environmental attributes on beef purchase intention and willingness to pay using a discrete choice analysis model. Factors such as animal welfare, traceability, consumption frequency, gender, and brand familiarity were found to impact beef choice in different consumption situations. The study suggests that highlighting aspects like greenhouse gas emissions and animal welfare in communication strategies can help the beef industry better cater to consumer preferences.

Comparison of Dental Carcass Maturity in Non-Castrated Male F1 Angus-Nellore Cattle Finished in Feedlot

Bismarck Moreira Santiago et al.

Summary: The study showed that the number of permanent incisor teeth did not have an impact on carcass and meat quality traits of non-castrated male F1 Angus-Nellore cattle finished in feedlot for 180 days. This suggests that dental carcass maturity does not affect the quality of carcasses in this specific crossbred cattle.
