Does the socioeconomic status predict health service utilization in persons with enhanced health care needs? Results from a population-based survey in persons with spinal cord lesions from Switzerland

Summary: This study investigates the associations between socioeconomic status (SES) and health service utilization in adults with spinal cord injury in Switzerland. The findings suggest that higher SES is associated with higher utilization of certain care providers, such as specialists, dentists, and dental hygienists. While basic health care provision is guaranteed for all patients with spinal cord injury in Switzerland, social inequalities still exist in the utilization of specific providers.

Utility of 30-Day Readmission Metrics in the Burn Population: Navigating Quality Metric Limitations in Special Populations

Association Between Interhospital Care Fragmentation, Readmission Diagnosis, and Outcomes

Summary: This study assessed the impact of interhospital fragmentation on in-hospital mortality, length of stay, and costs in 30-day readmissions. The results showed that fragmented readmissions were associated with higher in-hospital mortality and cost. Mortality was consistently higher for fragmented readmissions for patients with congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
