Study on the microstructure evolution and dynamic recrystallization mechanism of selective laser melted Inconel 718 alloy during hot deformation

Wei Le et al.

Summary: In this study, the hot deformation behavior, microstructure evolution, and dynamic recrystallization (DRX) behavior of selective laser melted (SLM) 718 alloy were investigated using isothermal compression testing, electron back scattered diffraction (EBSD) technology, and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results reveal that the deformation condition has a significant impact on the flow behavior and DRX grain of the alloy. Increasing the deformation temperature or decreasing the strain rate leads to an increase in the volume fraction and average size of DRX grains. The DRX mechanism of SLM 718 alloy involves discontinuous dynamic recrystallization (DDRX) characterized by initial grain boundary and regenerated grain boundary bulging, and continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX) occurring inside the grain characterized by progressive subgrain rotation and homogeneous misorientation increase.

Corrosion behavior of refractory metals in liquid lead at 1000?C for 1000 h

Zunqi Xiao et al.

Summary: Lead-based fast reactor (LFR) is one of the most promising reactors in Generation IV nuclear systems, with high efficiency and operation temperatures up to 800 degrees C or higher. Corrosion of cladding materials with lead at high temperatures is a key issue in high-efficiency LFR. This study investigated the corrosion behavior of refractory metals (Nb, Nb521, and Mo-0.5La) in static lead at 1000 degrees C for 1000 h. The results showed that Nb and Nb521 exhibited intense dissolution corrosion with lead penetration along grain boundaries, while Mo-0.5La showed better corrosion resistance with no lead penetration observed. However, surface etching indicated some degree of corrosion in Mo-0.5La. The results suggest that Mo-0.5La is compatible with lead up to 1000 degrees C, while Nb and Nb alloys may not be compatible with lead in high-efficiency LFR at such high temperatures.

The oxidation behaviors of high-purity niobium for superconducting radio-frequency cavity application in vacuum heat treatment

Mingming Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of vacuum heat treatment on the chemical composition and impurities distribution on the surface and depth of high-purity niobium. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results showed that the heat treatment temperature affected the composition of surface oxide, while the influence of nitrogen was not confirmed. This study is important for understanding the effect of material properties on RF performance and optimizing surface treatment process for SRF Nb cavities.
