A high-quality reference genome for the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces osmophilus

Guo-Song Jia et al.

Summary: This study sequenced the genomes of the recently identified fission yeast species S. osmophilus and found it to be most closely related to S. octosporus. Comparative analyses using the S. osmophilus reference genome revealed conservation of repeat arrangements and sequence motifs in centromere cores, identified telomeric sequences composed of 2 types of repeats, and characterized the evolution and transfer of transposons and mitochondrial selfish elements.

Yesprit and Yeaseq: Applications for designing primers and browsing sequences for research using the four Schizosaccharomyces species

Xindi Wang et al.

Summary: The polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based gene targeting method is widely used in studying gene function in fission yeast. However, existing primer design tools are only available for one species and there is a lack of DNA/protein sequence retrieval applications for three other fission yeast species. Introduction of Yesprit and Yeaseq applications will greatly facilitate research on the four fission yeast species, providing tools for primer design and sequence retrieval.
