Assessing the performance of machine learning algorithms for soil salinity mapping in Google Earth Engine platform using Sentinel-2A and Landsat-8 OLI data

Samet Aksoy et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the importance of soil salinization detection using remote sensing techniques and machine-learning algorithms in arid and semi-arid regions. Among the three machine-learning algorithms analyzed, random forest algorithm demonstrated the most reliable spatial distribution of soil salinity classes in the selected study area, despite slightly better prediction results from classification and regression trees (CART) in some aspects.

Comparative Assessment of Pixel and Object-Based Approaches for Mapping of Olive Tree Crowns Based on UAV Multispectral Imagery

Ante Siljeg et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the applicability and accuracy of UAV imagery using PB and GEOBIA classification approaches, examining MLC and SVM algorithms. The results showed that GEOBIA-SVM was the most reliable algorithm for extracting olive tree crowns from UAV images. Comparing the two approaches, GEOBIA achieved higher accuracy in extracting tree crowns than PB. SVM was also found to be more accurate than MLC in both approaches.

Plant species classification in salt marshes using phenological parameters derived from Sentinel-2 pixel-differential time-series

Chao Sun et al.

Summary: This study proposed a vegetation classification method for salt marshes using time-series data derived from Sentinel-2, achieving high accuracy in plant species classification by extracting phenological parameters. The results showed unique phenological characteristics among the six plant species, especially with Phragmites australis exhibiting an advanced green-up season and Spartina alterniflora senescing later than native plants in the region.
