Sage or guide? Student perceptions of the role of the instructor in a flipped classroom

Sarah McLean et al.

Summary: Higher education is shifting towards a student-centered learning approach, with many instructors adopting flipped classrooms where students complete pre-work before class. The instructor's role becomes more of a guide rather than a sage. Research has shown positive impact of the flipped classroom, but it is unclear whether students notice and value the change in instructor role. This study evaluates students' perception of the ideal instructor in a flipped classroom, finding that students value the instructor as a moderator and highlight the increased interaction and learning among students.
