Ameliorative role of chitosan nanoparticles against silver nanoparticle-induced reproductive toxicity in male albino rats

Aya Abd Elhakeem Mahgoob et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the protective effects of chitosan nanoparticles against silver nanoparticle-induced reproductive toxicity in male rats. The results showed that chitosan nanoparticles ameliorated the damage to the reproductive system caused by silver nanoparticles. Additionally, chitosan nanoparticles coated with silver nanoparticles had a stronger protective effect.

Modulatory role of Coriandrum sativum (coriander) extract against diabetic complications on the gonads of female rats and their offspring

Amany Attaallah et al.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the possible modulatory role of dry coriander fruit extract against gonadal impairments associated with diabetes in female rats and their pups. The results showed that administration of coriander fruit extract to diabetic rats successfully alleviated most of the altered histological, immunohistochemical, biochemical, and apoptotic changes induced by diabetes. Dry coriander fruit extract has a powerful ameliorative role against STZ-induced diabetic gonadal dysfunctions in female rats and their offspring.

Organochlorine pesticides induce thyroid tumors through oxidative stress; an in vivo and in silico study

Fouzieh Salimi et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the role of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in oxidative stress (OS) and the development of thyroid tumors. The results showed decreased enzyme activities and total antioxidant capacity, as well as increased levels of oxidative stress biomarkers in patients with thyroid tumors. Therefore, OCPs may contribute to the development of thyroid tumors through the generation of oxidative stress.

A Common Feature of Pesticides: Oxidative Stress-The Role of Oxidative Stress in Pesticide-Induced Toxicity

Rasheed O. Sule et al.

Summary: Pesticides are important chemicals or biological agents used to deter or kill pests. While they are effective in reducing pests and increasing crop growth, they also have potential toxic effects on humans and wildlife, such as increased risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and birth defects. Pesticides induce oxidative stress, associated with various diseases, through reactive oxygen and nitrogen species. Limited in vitro studies suggest that exogenous antioxidants may mitigate the harmful effects of pesticides.

Ellagic acid regulates hyperglycemic state through modulation of pancreatic IL-6 and TNF- a immunoexpression

Manal M. Elbandrawy et al.

Summary: This study investigated the therapeutic effects of ellagic acid (EA) on a rodent model of T2DM. The results showed that EA could lower blood glucose levels, alter enzyme and inflammatory factor expression, enhance islet cell regeneration, and improve glucose homeostasis. Therefore, EA may be an innovative treatment approach for T2DM.

The potential curative role of Avena sativa extract against oxidative stress, DNA damage and apoptosis induced by acute hepatotoxicity of silver nanoparticles in rats

Ehab Tousson et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of Avena sativa (AVS) extract on liver damage induced by silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs). The results showed that Ag NPs administration caused liver dysfunction, DNA damage, apoptosis, and oxidative stress, while co-treatment with AVS improved these changes.

Effectiveness and mechanisms of the adsorption of carbendazim from wastewater onto commercial activated carbon

Guizhen Li et al.

Summary: The widespread use of fungicides is causing water pollution. This study focused on carbendazim, a model fungicide, and examined its adsorption on activated carbon (AC). The optimal conditions for carbendazim adsorption were determined to be an AC dosage of 0.3 g, reaction time of 150 min, and pH ranging from 3.0 to 10.0. The adsorption capacity reached 32.31 mg g(-1) under these conditions. The adsorption process was found to be a monolayer adsorption that occurred on the surface of the AC. The study also confirmed that the adsorption of carbendazim was an endothermic process with physical and chemical adsorption. The findings of this study can be applied to other types of AC and provide valuable information for treating fungicide wastewater.

L-carnitine extenuates endocrine disruption, inflammatory burst and oxidative stress in carbendazim-challenged male rats via upregulation of testicular StAR and FABP9, and downregulation of P38-MAPK pathways

Maha A. Salem et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the potential of L-carnitine (LC) to mitigate the reproductive toxic effects of carbendazim (CBZ) in male rats, and explored the molecular mechanisms involved in modifying spermatogenic and steroidogenic disruptions caused by the endocrine disruptor. LC supplementation improved sperm quality, testicular histological alterations, endocrine disturbances, and modulation of gene expressions and proteins, primarily through its endocrine-preserving, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
