Experimental and numerical study of the CIGS/CdS heterojunction solar cell

Taoufik Chargui et al.

Summary: In this paper, a complementary and comparative analysis between an experimental and simulation study of the CIGS/CdS bulk heterojunction solar cell was performed. The electrical parameters of the heterojunction, such as parasitic resistances and the properties of the (I-V) characteristic in the dark and at different temperatures, were determined. The study also explored the use of a HTL (NiO) layer to improve the efficiency of the cell.

4.9% Efficient Sb2S3 Solar Cells from Semitransparent Absorbers with Fluorene-Based Thiophene-Terminated Hole Conductors

Sreekanth Mandati et al.

Summary: Fluorene-based hole transport materials (HTMs) with terminating thiophene units are explored for Sb2S3 solar cells for the first time. These HTMs have simplified synthesis processes and high yields, making them economically viable compared to conventional expensive hole conductors. The study demonstrates that the thiophene unit-linked HTMs can be successfully used in ultrasonic spray-deposited Sb2S3 solar cells, achieving efficiencies in the range of 4.7-4.9% and an average visible transmittance (AVT) of 30-33% (400-800 nm), outperforming cells fabricated using conventional P3HT.

Thermodynamic, optical, and morphological studies of the Cs2AgBiX6 double perovskites (X = Cl, Br, and I): Insights from DFT study

Younes Chrafih et al.

Summary: In contrast to Pb-based perovskites, Cs2AgBiX6 double silver-bismuth perovskites (X = Cl, Br, I) have shown great potential for low-risk solar energy due to their high durability and non-toxic constituents. This paper investigates the cubic structure and optoelectronic behavior of Cs2AgBiX6 double perovskites, revealing that the newly acquired cubic phase exhibits higher optical properties suitable for optoelectronic device design. The thermodynamic properties of phonon modes, including enthalpy, free energy, entropy, and heat capacity, are also studied. Moreover, the optical and thermodynamic properties of pure Cs2AgBiCl6 and Cs2AgBiBr6 samples suggest their promising qualities for optoelectronic and photovoltaic applications.

Novel Simulation and Efficiency Enhancement of Eco-friendly Cu2FeSnS4/c-Silicon Tandem Solar Device

Mohamed Al-Hattab et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new theoretical approach for a 2T Tandem solar cell made of CFTS/Si. The selection and performance enhancement of both cells are crucial for maximum benefit. The independent analysis and optimization of the bottom and top cells result in impressive performances. However, the 2T terminals model has limitations in terms of current density circulation. The evaluation of the tandem Cu2FeSnS4-on-c-Si solar cell demonstrates thorough analysis of single-cell performance parameters and tandem device architecture.

Ab Initio Investigation for Solar Technology on the Optical and Electronic Properties of Double Perovskites Cs2AgBiX6(X=Cl, Br, I)

Mohamed Al-Hattab et al.

Summary: In this study, the optical and electronic characteristics of Cs2AgBiX6 (X=Cl, Br, I) double perovskite were explored using first-principles computations. The band gap energies were determined using GGA potentials, and the light absorption coefficients, refractive indices, and dielectric functions were computed. Additionally, solar cells made of Cs2AgBiX6 (X=Cl, Br, I) were simulated, and parameters such as efficiency and fill factor were calculated. The results demonstrate the potential of Cs2AgBiX6 (X=Cl, Br, I) as a useful material in solar cells.

Additive effect of bromides and chlorides on the performance of perovskite solar cells fabricated via sequential deposition

Jedrzej Szmytkowski et al.

Summary: A two-step sequential deposition method was used to prepare two types of perovskite solar cells with different bromine and chlorine atom sources. The performance and stability of the chloride-based photocells were found to be worse than the bromide-based devices due to an accumulation of Cl atoms at the interfaces causing increased interface recombination. Additionally, the bulk density of states and bulk recombination of charge carriers were higher for perovskite layers obtained with chlorine atoms. The two-step technique applied to create the bromide perovskites had less impact on the photocells performance compared to one-step deposition, potentially due to the presence of nucleation sites in the inorganic layer improving perovskite material growth.
