Fast Expandable Chitosan-Fibers Cryogel from Ambient Drying for Noncompressible Bleeding Control and In Situ Tissue Regeneration

Luhe Qi et al.

Summary: A cryogelation strategy and subsequent solvent exchange were developed for the production of fast expandable chitosan cryogel. The cryogel demonstrated rapid shape recovery and high water absorption ability. It was also shown to have positive effects on in situ tissue regeneration due to its biodegradability and biocompatibility. Therefore, chitosan cryogels prepared by this simple method could effectively control noncompressible bleeding and severe high-pressure hemorrhage.

Polydopamine-based polysaccharide materials for water treatment

Fangfei Liu et al.

Summary: Low-cost polysaccharides have been widely used in water treatment, but their efficiency and capability are often limited due to the lack of active sites and functionalities. Polydopamine (PDA) modification has been introduced to polysaccharide-based materials to enhance their performance. PDA can provide functional moieties for binding heavy metals and pollutants, increase interfacial stability and hydrophilicity for oil/water separation, anchor various catalysts for catalytic degradation, and enable solar-driven water purification.

Coacervate-Derived Hydrogel with Effective Water Repulsion and Robust Underwater Bioadhesion Promotes Wound Healing

Xin Peng et al.

Summary: This study reports a coacervate-to-hydrogel strategy to enhance the water repulsion and adhesion ability of bioadhesives. The deposition of polyethyleneimine/thioctic acid (PEI/TA) coacervate onto underwater substrates effectively repels interfacial water and transforms into a hydrogel within minutes, resulting in enhanced adhesion. The coacervate-to-hydrogel strategy has the advantages of adaptability, strong interfacial adhesion, and robust bulk adhesion, showing potential for diverse biomedical applications.
