Natural gas characteristics and gas-source comparisons of the lower triassic Jialingjiang formation, Eastern Sichuan basin

Ziyun Zheng et al.

Summary: Through experimental tests and research, it was found that the natural gas in the Jialingjiang Formation is mainly hydrocarbon gas, with methane as the dominant component, and it has the typical characteristics of high maturity dry gas reservoirs. The source of the natural gas is oil-type thermogenic gas from crustal sources, mainly generated from partial sapropelic kerogen in a sedimentary environment of salt to brackish water. The natural gas is mainly generated by argillaceous source rocks of the Upper Permian Longtan Formation. The natural gas accumulation in the Jialingjiang Formation has experienced three stages, including paleo-oil reservoir, paleo-gas reservoir, and current gas reservoir.

Origin, accumulation and secondary alteration of natural gas around Qingshui Sub-sag, Liaohe Depression, China: Insights from molecular and isotopic composition

Lixin Pei et al.

Summary: Fourteen gases and associated oils were collected from production wells in different geological formations in the Qingshui Sub-sag of the Bohai Bay Basin. The molecular compositions and isotopic compositions of natural gas were analyzed to study the origin, migration, accumulation, and alteration processes. Different types of natural gas, including humic-type, sapropelic-type, and secondary microbial gases, were identified with specific characteristics and exploration potential in the study area.

Review on the development of China's natural gas industry in the background of carbon neutrality

Zhen Wang et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the development prospects of China's natural gas industry under the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, and summarizes recent research results. The paper highlights that natural gas is the most practical option to replace coal and play an important role in the process of carbon neutrality. Suggestions are proposed to strengthen infrastructure construction, promote market-oriented allocation and pricing, focus on natural gas power generation, and enhance cooperation among different sectors.

Controlling factors of tight sandstone gas accumulation and enrichment in the slope zone of foreland basins: The Upper Triassic Xujiahe Formation in Western Sichuan Foreland Basin, China

Jian Deng et al.

Summary: This study discusses the controlling factors of tight sandstone gas accumulation and enrichment in the slope zone of the Western Sichuan Foreland Basin. It emphasizes the importance of high-quality source rock, high-quality reservoir, and favorable structure in the accumulation and enrichment of tight sandstone gas. The study also highlights the role of Type I faults in promoting natural gas migration and improving gas accumulation efficiency.

Controls of sandstone architecture on hydrocarbon accumulation in a shallow-water delta from the Jurassic Shaximiao Formation of the western Sichuan Basin in China

Xiaoju Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the sandstone architectures of river channels in the shallow-water delta of the Jurassic Shaximiao Formation in China's western Sichuan Basin. The results show that these architectures have a significant impact on hydrocarbon accumulation and production in sandstone reservoirs. The findings improve understanding of sandstone distribution in shallow-water deltas, especially for fingered bar types, and guide oil and gas exploration in these systems.

Natural Gas Geochemistry of Jurassic Shaximiao Formation in the Western Sichuan Basin, China: Fault-Controlled Differentiation in Accumulation Process

Jun Dong et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the accumulation process of the Middle Jurassic Shaximiao reservoir in the Zhongjiang gas field by studying the geochemical parameters of natural gas samples. The results reveal the relationship between gas accumulation and the distance between hydrocarbon source faults. The study provides valuable insights into the migration patterns and phase state of natural gas.

Development status and prospect of tight sandstone gas in China

Ailin Jia et al.

Summary: As an important type of unconventional gas, tight gas is widely distributed in major petroliferous basins around the world. The breakthrough of reservoir reconstruction technology and reduction of development cost have promoted the scale and industrial development of tight gas. China, as the third largest producer of tight gas, has abundant resources and great potential for development.

Tectonic evolution of the Sichuan Basin, Southwest China

Shugen Liu et al.

Summary: Surface deformation in the Sichuan basin is influenced by two weak extension and compression episodes, leading to the formation of specific structures. The evolution of the basin appears to be controlled by deformation from its peripheral orogens rather than deep lithospheric and mantle processes.

Hydrocarbon Kitchen Evolution in the Early Cretaceous Bayingebi 2 Formation in the Chagan Depression, Yingen-Ejinaqi Basin, North Central China

Meihua Yang et al.

Summary: The Chagan Depression in the Yingen-Ejinaqi Basin of north central China is an important tectonic unit for oil and gas exploration, with abundant resources. The study focused on the Bayingebi 2 Formation, revealing that it has two hydrocarbon kitchens: the western subdepression and the eastern subdepression. The western subdepression kitchen developed during the Suhongtu 1 Formation deposition period, while the eastern subdepression kitchen only developed during the Yingen Formation deposition period.

Francesco Cappuccio et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the geochemical characterization of source rocks in the Barents Sea, showing that some formations have good organic carbon content and all formations tend to be mixed gas-oil prone. The results confirm that the Passey method can be an alternative to infer geological information when geochemical data are not available.
