Zn0.5Co0.5Mn0.5Fe0.5Al0.5Mg0.5O4 high-entropy oxide with high capacity and ultra-long life for Li-ion battery anodes

Shun Li et al.

Summary: Due to the entropy stabilization effect, transition metal-based high-entropy oxides (HEOs) have robust Li-ion storage properties, making them promising electrode materials for high-performance Li-ion batteries (LIBs). In this study, a six-component Zn0.5Co0.5Mn0.5Fe0.5Al0.5Mg0.5O4 spinel-structured HEO (6M-HEO) was synthesized using a facile coprecipitation method. When used as an anode, the stable high-entropy nanostructures of 6M-HEO exhibited high specific capacity, ultra-long cycling stability, and outstanding rate performance. These excellent results were attributed to the reduced stress and volume expansion caused by the high-entropy structure, as well as the selection of active and inactive elements to withstand the rapid shuttle of Li ions.

MoS2 nanoflowers coupled with ultrafine Ir nanoparticles for efficient acid overall water splitting reaction

Chunyan Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, an efficient Ir/MoS2 nanoflowers catalyst was reported for acidic water electrolysis. The catalyst exhibited good catalytic activity and stability, reducing the electrolysis overpotential and achieving a kinetic current density of 10 mA cm-2. The strong metal-support interaction changed the electronic structure of Ir metal and promoted the synergistic catalytic effect between Ir and MoS2 nanoflowers.

High-entropy effect of a metal phosphide on enhanced overall water splitting performance

Dawei Lai et al.

Summary: A one-step low temperature sol-gel strategy was proposed to synthesize high-entropy metal phosphide nanoparticles, which exhibited supernormal catalytic activities for the oxygen evolution reaction, hydrogen evolution reaction, and overall water splitting. The increase in metal species number led to decreased overpotentials for OER and HER, demonstrating the significant effect of high entropy on performance enhancement. This work provides a facile synthesis strategy for preparing high entropy compounds with great potential in energy and electrocatalysis applications.
