The association of adolescent e-cigarette harm perception to advertising exposure and marketing type

Man Hung et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the relationship between adolescent e-cigarette harm perception and five types of e-cigarette advertising exposures. The findings suggest that e-cigarette advertising influences adolescent perceptions of harm, particularly for social media and newspaper advertisements. However, adjusting for covariates such as environmental support and exposure to anti-tobacco marketing weakens the association between advertising and harm perception.

Reactions to targeted tobacco control messaging: Transgender and gender diverse young adult perspectives

Josephine T. Hinds et al.

Summary: This study found that interventions specifically created for transgender and gender diverse young adults are almost non-existent. This Free Life is the first large scale campaign designed to address the smoking disparities of sexual and gender minority (SGM) young adults. Results showed that positive reactions to video content were related to visible queer representation and depictions of gender nonconformity, while negative reactions were associated with perceived sexist stereotypes and an over-reliance on cisgender gay bar culture.
