Evaluation of the ocular surface in asymptomatic glaucoma patients on topical medications and following trabeculectomy-A cross-sectional study

Vanita Pathak Ray et al.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the ocular surface in asymptomatic patients with diffuse blebs after trabeculectomy versus chronic anti-glaucoma medication use and compare it with the age-matched normal population. The results show that tear film break-up time and Schirmer's test are significantly lower, and tear film osmolarity and Ocular Surface Disease Index are significantly higher in the chronic anti-glaucoma medication group compared to the normal group. Comparing the trabeculectomy group with the anti-glaucoma medication group, Schirmer's test is higher and tear film osmolarity is lower. In conclusion, the ocular surface is affected even in asymptomatic patients on anti-glaucoma medication, but near normalcy is possible following trabeculectomy with diffuse blebs.

Preparing the ocular surface for glaucoma filtration surgery: an unmet clinical need

Luca Agnifili et al.

Summary: The relationship between medical therapy, ocular surface, and filtration surgery is crucial in glaucoma management. Improving the health of the ocular surface before performing filtration surgery is necessary. However, the lack of validated guidelines results in individualized approaches by surgeons.

Anterior-segment optical coherence tomography of filtering blebs in the early postoperative period of ab externo SIBS microshunt implantation with mitomycin C: Morphological analysis and correlation with intraocular pressure reduction

Marta Ibarz Barbera et al.

Summary: This study used AS-OCT to analyze the morphological evolution of filtering blebs and their correlation with intraocular pressure after ab externo SIBS microshunt implantation. The results showed significant horizontal and vertical expansion of the blebs, with no significant correlation with the decrease in IOP.

Anterior Segment-Optical Coherence Tomography Bleb Morphology Comparison in Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery: XEN Gel Stent vs. PreserFlo MicroShunt

Gloria Gambini et al.

Summary: This study compared the morphology of postoperative blebs between XEN45 and PreserFlo MicroShunt implantation at 6-month follow-up. The results showed a significant reduction in intraocular pressure (IOP) in both groups during the follow-up period. The most common bleb morphology in the XEN group was subconjunctival separation type, while in the PreserFlo group, it was multiple internal layer, which decreased over time and was replaced by microcystic multiform. The horizontal and vertical diameters of the blebs increased over time.
