Characterization of the Gene Expression Profile Response to Drought Stress in Populus ussuriensis Using PacBio SMRT and Illumina Sequencing

Wenlong Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the gene expression profile in the roots of Populus ussuriensis under PEG-induced drought stress was characterized. Differentially expressed genes associated with signal transduction, antioxidant system, ion accumulation, and drought-inducing proteins were identified. Changes in physiological and biochemical indexes and differentially expressed transcription factors were confirmed. Additionally, long non-coding RNAs and alternative splicing events were discovered. The results provide a global view of the gene expression profile in P. ussuriensis under drought stress and valuable information for future genetic engineering research.

PagGRF11 Overexpression Promotes Stem Development and Dwarfing in Populus

Yanting Tian et al.

Summary: This study identified the PagGRF11 gene in poplar and found that overexpression of this gene leads to dwarfing, stem diameter increase, internode shortening, and larger leaf area in poplar. Further investigation revealed that PagGRF11 promotes the development of xylem by activating the expression of CCCH39.

Transcriptional Regulation of Drought Response in Arabidopsis and Woody Plants

Tao Yao et al.

Summary: This review provides an overview of recent progress in understanding drought response mechanisms in plants, focusing on the role of transcription factor families. It highlights the importance of studying these mechanisms in model plants like Arabidopsis and economically and ecologically significant woody species like Populus. The review also mentions the potential for further insights into drought responses in woody plants through high-throughput omics analyses and advanced genome editing techniques.

Genetic Effects and Expression Patterns of the Nitrate Transporter (NRT) Gene Family in Populus tomentosa

Lei Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers identified and characterized 98 members of the PtoNRT gene family in poplar, revealing distinct expression patterns of the genes in different tissues. By combining candidate gene family association study, WGCNA, and eQTL mapping, the study provided insights into the potential regulatory mechanisms of NRT genes in controlling leaf nitrogen content in poplar.
