Pre-feeding premature infant oral motor intervention (PIOMI) for transition from gavage to oral feeding: A randomised controlled trial

Tapas Bandyopadhyay et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of premature infant oral motor intervention in facilitating the transition from gavage to full spoon feeding in preterm infants. The results showed that the intervention group achieved full spoon feeds significantly earlier than the control group. Overall, the study highlights the importance of oral motor intervention in promoting feeding skills development in premature infants.

Effect of the Premature Infant Oral Motor Intervention on Sucking Capacity in Preterm Infants in Turkey: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Selver Guler et al.

Summary: The study examined the effects of the Premature Infant Oral Motor Intervention (PIOMI) on oral-motor development and feeding outcomes in preterm infants. The results showed that the experimental group experienced significant improvements in sucking capacity, weight and head circumference gains, initiation of bottle and breast/chest feeding, and a shorter length of hospital stay.

Effectiveness of the Premature Infant Oral Motor Intervention on Feeding Performance, Duration of Hospital Stay, and Weight of Preterm Neonates in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Results From a Randomized Controlled Trial

Amina Mohamed Thabet et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of Premature Infant Oral Motor Intervention on preterm neonates in NICU and found that PIOMI significantly improved feeding performance, reduced hospital stay duration, and increased weight when compared to the control group. The study recommended training programs for nurses and parents, along with policy implementation in NICU for the routine use of PIOMI in preterm neonatal care.
