Aggregation-Induced Electrochemiluminescence of Copper Nanoclusters by Regulating Valence State Ratio of Cu(I)/Cu(0) for Ultrasensitive Detection of MicroRNA

Lian Xiang et al.

Summary: In this study, Cu nanoclusters (Cu NCs) with strong aggregation-induced electrochemiluminescence (AIECL) were used to develop an ECL biosensor for ultrasensitive detection of miR-141. The ECL intensity of the aggregative Cu NCs was significantly enhanced with the increased content of Cu(I), which could form rod-shaped aggregates and improve the ECL response. By utilizing the cascade strand displacement amplification (SDA) strategy, an outstanding ECL biosensor was developed with a linear range from 10 aM to 1 nM and a detection limit of 1.2 aM for miR-141. This approach provides a new idea for the detection of biomolecules in disease diagnosis using non-noble metal nanomaterials as robust ECL emitters.

Dumbbell Plate-Shaped AIEgen-Based Luminescent MOF with High Quantum Yield as Self-Enhanced ECL Tags: Mechanism Insights and Biosensing Application

Jingshuai Li et al.

Summary: This study synthesized a high-luminous metal-organic framework (MOF) by combining aggregation-induced emission luminogens and Zr(IV) cations to improve the detection sensitivity of electrochemiluminescence (ECL) strategy. The MOF exhibited stronger ECL activity than monomers and aggregates, which was defined as coordination-triggered electrochemiluminescence (CT-ECL) enhancement effect. The covalent connection of polyethyleneimine (PEI) with MOF further enhanced the stability of the ECL signal.

Dual biomineralized metal-organic frameworks-mediated conversion of chemical energy to electricity enabling portable PEC sensing of telomerase activity in bladder cancer tissues

Fenglan Li et al.

Summary: This work presents a portable photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing system for detecting telomerase activity based on dual biomineralized ZIF-8 nanoparticles. The system combines the conversion of chemical energy to electricity with the elongation of Y-junction DNA structure catalyzed by terminal deoxynucleoside transferase (TdTase). The developed PEC sensing system has a wide calibration range and low detection limit, and it has been successfully applied to evaluate telomerase activity in bladder tumor tissues. This work not only provides a diagnostic tool for telomerase-related diseases, but also opens up a new avenue for establishing PEC assay methods using metal-organic framework nanoparticles.

Ordered heterogeneity in dual-ligand MOF to enable high electrochemiluminescence efficiency for bioassay with DNA triangular prism as signal switch

Yan-Qi Xue et al.

Summary: In this study, researchers developed a microRNA-141 electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor using a dual-ligand metal-organic framework (d-MOF). The d-MOF showed significantly enhanced ECL intensity compared to a single-ligand MOF, even with the addition of exogenous coreactants. The researchers achieved this enhancement by restricting the intramolecular rotation of the luminophore ligands and arranging the spatial location of the coreactant ligands. The proposed biosensor achieved a low detection limit and a broad linear range for the detection of microRNA-141. This study provides a promising strategy for the design of ECL biosensors in diagnostic analysis.
