Design and applications of carbon dots-based ratiometric fluorescent probes: A review

Bin-Bin Chen et al.

Summary: This review provides an overview of carbon dots (CDs)-based ratiometric fluorescence (FL) probes, focusing on their construction strategies and applications in ions, molecules, pH, and temperature sensing. CDs-based ratiometric FL probes have gained extensive research attention due to their excellent biocompatibility, water solubility, and multi-emission capabilities. The probes can eliminate background interference and provide more accurate detection results. The sensing types of CDs-based ratiometric FL probes are classified into five categories based on the difference in spectral variation caused by analytes.

Thunnus albacares protein-mediated synthesis of water-soluble Copper nanoclusters as sensitive fluorescent probe for Ferric ion detection

Devaraj Sabarinathan et al.

Summary: This work presents a single-step reduction method for the synthesis of highly stable water-soluble copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) using Thunnus albacares fish protein (FP) as a capping and reducing agent at ambient conditions. The physicochemical properties of the prepared CuNCs were characterized, and the FP-CuNCs exhibited high photo stability and excellent fluorescent properties under different ionic strength and pH. The fluorescence of FP-CuNCs was utilized for the detection of Fe3+ ions in aqueous conditions with a low limit of detection. The practical applicability of the detection probe was demonstrated in environmental sample analysis.

Recent Advances in Developing Lanthanide Metal-Organic Frameworks for Ratiometric Fluorescent Sensing

Tianying Sun et al.

Summary: Fluorescent probes have been used in developing optical sensor systems for their reliable and rapid fluorescent response upon reaction with analytes. Ratiometric fluorescent sensors, utilizing emission intensity ratio at different wavelengths, show higher sensitivity and allow fast visual screening of analytes. Lanthanide metal-organic frameworks are highly designable luminescent materials and have been widely employed as ratiometric fluorescent sensors.

Ultrahigh Efficient FRET Ratiometric Fluorescence Biosensor for Visual Detection of Alkaline Phosphatase Activity and Its Inhibitor

Yuanjin Zhan et al.

Summary: A ratiometric fluorescence sensor based on FRET strategy was developed for detecting ALP activity and its inhibitor Na3VO4. The sensor showed high FRET efficiency, ratiometric change in fluorescence intensity, and dual-emission self-correction ability, enabling quantitative detection and visual analysis of ALP activity. This biosensor provides a promising alternative for evaluating ALP-related diseases and can also be utilized for assessing Cu2+, PPi, and Na3VO4 levels, as well as screening ALP inhibitors.
