Simulating the Hydrological Processes under Multiple Land Use/Land Cover and Climate Change Scenarios in the Mahanadi Reservoir Complex, Chhattisgarh, India

Shashikant Verma et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of land use/land cover and climate change on the hydrology of the Mahanadi Reservoir catchment. The findings reveal that changes in land use/land cover lead to increased streamflow and decreased evapotranspiration, primarily due to urbanization and the loss of water bodies, forest cover, and barren land. This research provides valuable insights for government bodies, policymakers, and water resource managers in developing effective strategies for water resource management.

Effect of land use land cover change on runoff characteristics using curve number: a GIS and remote sensing approach

Darshan Mehta et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the impact of different land use and cover categories on runoff in the Ambica river basin for a period of 20 years (1990-2010) using QGIS. The results showed that land use changes have a significant effect on runoff, highlighting the need for land managers and policymakers to halt and reverse current land use trends.

Flood modelling for a data-scare semi-arid region using 1-D hydrodynamic model: a case study of Navsari Region

Darshan J. Mehta et al.

Summary: A one-dimensional hydrodynamic model was used to assess the geomorphic impact of floods in the Ambica river basin in South Gujarat. The study revealed that low-lying areas of Navsari city are prone to flooding when river discharge exceeds 6500 m(3)/s, providing valuable insights for disaster management, flood management, and early warning systems.

Modeling and Risk Analysis of Dam-Break Flooding in a Semi-Arid Montane Watershed: A Case Study of the Yabous Dam, Northeastern Algeria

Aissam Gaagai et al.

Summary: This study simulated the dam breach failure scenario of Yabous dam in northeast Algeria and analyzed its influence on the downstream urban and natural environments. Sensitivity analysis showed that adjustments in breach width and slope resulted in positive changes in flood wave flow, height, and width, while adjustments in breach formation time had opposite effects. The HEC-RAS hydraulic model effectively simulated the flood wave propagation downstream and highlighted the impact of breach parameters and flood hydrographical pattern.

Modeling the Spatial Dynamics of Soil Organic Carbon Using Remotely-Sensed Predictors in Fuzhou City, China

Terefe Hanchiso Sodango et al.

Summary: Assessing the spatial dynamics of soil organic carbon (SOC) is crucial for carbon monitoring. This study aimed at predicting the spatial distribution of SOC using remote sensing variables and other covariates, finding that the RF model had good prediction performance. The spatial variability of SOC was influenced by landform, land use, and lithology, with forestland having the highest SOC content.

Flood Mapping from Dam Break Due to Peak Inflow: A Coupled Rainfall-Runoff and Hydraulic Models Approach

Mihretab G. Tedla et al.

Summary: This study conducted flood mapping of a hypothetical dam break using HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS models for the Kesem embankment dam in Ethiopia under different return periods of flood inflow. The dam was found to remain safe for 50-year return-period inflows, but break for 100- and 200-year return periods, flooding the downstream area.
