Summary: We report a phase transition at around 180K in single-layer ZrTe2 based on angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) measurements, accompanied by a change in the band structure. Below the transition temperature, the opening of a gap and the development of an ultra-flat band top around the zone center are observed. The gap and phase transition can be rapidly suppressed by introducing extra carrier densities through the addition of more layers or dopants on the surface. Our study provides evidence for exciton condensation in a 2D semimetal and demonstrates strong dimensionality effects on the formation of intrinsic bound electron-hole pairs in solids.

Summary: Ultra-low temperature scanning tunnelling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/STS) achieved by dilution refrigeration can provide unrivalled insight into the local electronic structure of quantum materials and atomic-scale quantum systems. Effective isolation from mechanical vibration and acoustic noise is critical in order to achieve ultimate spatial and energy resolution. Here, we report on the design and performance of an ultra-low vibration (ULV) laboratory hosting a customized but otherwise commercially available 40 mK STM.

Summary: We theoretically investigate the electronic and transport properties of QSH edge states in large gap 1-T' WTe2 monolayers. We explore the impact of edge termination, disorder, temperature, and interactions on experimentally observable edge state properties. We find that conductance quantization can remain robust even for heavily disordered samples, and that moderate disorder can enhance the stability of conductance by localizing bulk states. We also evaluate the edge state velocity and Luttinger liquid parameter as functions of the chemical potential, finding prospects for physics beyond linear helical Luttinger liquids.

Summary: In this work, we demonstrate how a time-reversal breaking excitonic condensate in WTe2 leads to the breakdown of conductance quantization. Through Hartree-Fock calculations and quantum transport simulations, we show that weak nonmagnetic disorder can reproduce the observed edge length scaling of resistance in experiments.

Summary: Evidence suggests the existence of an intrinsic insulating state at the charge neutrality point in clean samples, confirming the correlated nature of this charge-neutral insulator. These observations lay the foundation for understanding a new class of correlated insulators with nontrivial topology and identify monolayer WTe2 as a promising candidate for exploring quantum phases of ground-state excitons.

Summary: Evidence shows that monolayer WTe2 contains excitons formed by electrons and holes bound by Coulomb attraction, exhibiting V-shaped dependence on electrostatic doping and step in chemical potential at the neutral point upon cooling. Strong electronic interactions allow excitons to form and condense at high temperature, showing strong correlations over a wide temperature range.

Summary: This study observes a correlated dipolar excitonic insulator and realizes a charge-insulating state driven by exciton formation in moire materials. Previous experimental studies have mainly focused on correlated electronic states. The results show that correlated quantum phenomena described by bosonic lattice models can be achieved in solid-state systems.

Summary: Despite being rare, spin-triplet superconductors are of fundamental importance and potential interest for topological quantum computing. In this work, a three-particle mechanism for spin-triplet superconductivity is proposed, where an effective attraction between doped electrons is generated from the Coulomb repulsion through a virtual interband transition involving a third electron. This theory reveals the possibility of a two-particle bound state arising from the strong electron repulsion upon doping, providing a new pathway to Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC)-Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) physics in solid state systems.

Summary: In this study, we used STM spectroscopy to measure the intrinsic bulk gap of monolayer 1 T '-WTe2 and demonstrated the significant changes in the gap magnitude induced by gate-induced electric fields. Our first-principles DFT-derived tight-binding model revealed the mechanism of spatial localization of bands and gate-induced spin splitting, providing a new avenue for realizing proximity induced non-trivial superconductivity in monolayer 1 T '-WTe2.

Summary: This study reports the observation of a correlated interlayer exciton insulator in a double-layer heterostructure composed of a WSe2 monolayer and a WS2/WSe2 moire bilayer. A new interlayer exciton insulator emerges when electrons are added to the WS2/WSe2 moire bilayer and an equal number of holes are injected into the WSe2 monolayer.

Summary: This paper reports the observation of an excitonic insulator in an angle-aligned monolayer WS2/bilayer WSe2 moire superlattice. By tuning the valence band in the second WSe2 layer to overlap with the moire miniband in the first WSe2 layer, the coexistence of electrons and holes is achieved, resulting in the formation of an excitonic insulator with a high transition temperature.

Summary: In one-dimensional systems, electron interactions lead to the breakdown of Fermi liquid theory and the formation of a Tomonaga-Luttinger Liquid. Recent studies have shown the existence of this state in the helical edge states of quantum spin Hall insulators. The authors demonstrate that the many-body interactions in the helical Tomonaga-Luttinger Liquid of 1T'-WTe2 can be effectively controlled by the dielectric screening via the substrate.

Summary: The study investigates the strongly proximity-coupled heterostructures of monolayer 1T'-WTe2 grown on NbSe2, revealing a hybrid electronic structure with multiband superconductivity induced by proximity to WTe2. A material-specific tight-binding model quantitatively captures the hybridized heterostructure and accurately predicts the induced order parameter in the WTe2 monolayer bulk. The detailed multiband analysis of the hybrid electronic structure provides a useful tool for spatial mapping of induced order parameters in atomically thin topological materials.

Summary: In this study, the electronic structures and topological properties of the orthorhombic and monoclinic phases of Ta2NiSe5 were investigated using density functional theory. It was found that both phases exhibit multiple parity and band inversions, with or without spin-orbit coupling, resulting in more complex and topologically nontrivial electronic structures. Additionally, Dirac cone type surface states were observed in the low-temperature monoclinic phase.

Summary: We have developed a theory of the excitonic phase in the zero-field insulating state of monolayer WTe2, identifying two distinct gapped excitonic phases through numerical simulations. These phases, a spin density wave state and spin spiral order, are linked to the orbital structure of electronic wave functions at the Fermi surface and their proximity to the gapped Dirac point in WTe2. The competition between excitonic phases and their collective modes provide implications for experiments.

Summary: Our investigation focuses on dipolar collisions in rotational state mixtures of ultracold bosonic (NaRb)-Na-23-Rb-87 molecules, where the resonant dipole-dipole interaction is found to significantly modify collisions even in the absence of an electric field. We reveal this effect by measuring enhanced two-body loss rate constants in the mixtures, and demonstrate that the dipolar interaction strength can be tuned with microwave spectroscopy. Additionally, observations of contributions from hyperfine changing collisions are made when the rotational level combination is not of the lowest energy.
