Incorporating circuit theory, complex networks, and carbon offsets into the multi-objective optimization of ecological networks: A case study on karst regions in China

The role of land use change in affecting ecosystem services and the ecological security pattern of the Hexi Regions, Northwest China

Spatial conservation prioritization for locating protected area gaps in Iran

Summary: In order to achieve Iran's goal of increasing the protected area coverage from 11% to 20%, we used a systematic conservation planning approach to identify areas that complement existing protected areas. Through the use of distribution maps and four different methods of weighting species and locations, we found that certain regions in Iran consistently ranked as important for conservation. Protecting 20% of the country's land area, as constrained by existing protected areas, would effectively conserve biodiversity in the majority of their distribution.

Risk assessment of soil erosion in Central Asia under global warming

Summary: Soil erosion poses a threat to the ecological environment and human health in Central Asia. This study simulated the spatiotemporal variation of wind and water erosion using climate model data and assessed the future risk to population exposure. The results showed that while overall wind erosion is decreasing, there is an increase in areas with wind erosion. Water erosion, on the other hand, is increasing, particularly in the central arid desert shrub areas. Higher wind speed and precipitation are the main factors contributing to erosion. This study provides important scientific basis for the formulation of ecological development plans in Central Asia towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Integrating ecosystem service trade-offs and rocky desertification into ecological security pattern construction in the Daning river basin of southwest China

The effect of mining and road development on habitat fragmentation and connectivity of khulan (Equus hemionus) in Northwestern China

In the Kalamaili Mountain Ungulate Nature Reserve (KNR) in northwestern China, the Chinese khulan is one of the most important desert ungulates, with over 80% of the population residing there. However, mining development and road construction have disrupted the movement and access of khulan within the reserve. The study found that the core habitat and ecological corridors of khulan were mainly concentrated in the middle of the reserve and on the east side of the road.
