Fragility analysis of the box-girder coastal bridge with different connections subjected to extreme random waves

Bo Huang et al.

Summary: This study presents a fragility framework to assess the failure probability of a box-girder superstructure with different connection types under extreme random wave actions. The results show that the failure probability of coastal bridges can be reduced by increasing the number of bolted connections.

Vehicle-SFT-current coupling vibration of multi-span submerged floating tunnel, part I: mode superposition and Galerkin hybrid method

Yunshen Yang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the submerged floating tunnel (SFT) structure in deep water environment, and analyzes the vehicle-SFT-current coupling vibration considering flexible joints and arbitrary boundary conditions. By simplifying the tube and cables as a multi-span continuous spatial beam on elastic supports and using a twelve degrees of freedom model to simulate the three-dimensional vehicle, the coupling vibration of current-structure is considered. The proposed method, based on mode superposition and Galerkin hybrid method, effectively analyzes the vibration of the multi-span SFT with arbitrary boundary condition.

Dynamic response analysis of submerged floating tunnel under impact-vehicle load action

Gang Luo et al.

Summary: The coupled SFT model can accurately reflect the tube's dynamic response with different boundary conditions. The system's displacement significantly decreases with the tube end stiffness increase, but the effect diminishes when it decreases to a specific value; The tension ratio between the mid-span tether and the edge tether increases significantly with the tube end stiffness increase.

Investigation on the effects of Bragg reflection on harbor oscillations

Junliang Gao et al.

Summary: This study simulated Bragg reflection and its interactions with the harbor, revealing that Bragg resonant reflection can significantly alleviate harbor resonance. The research also found that the number and amplitude of sinusoidal bars have remarkable influences on the mitigation effect of harbor resonance and on the optimal wavelength of sinusoidal bars that can achieve the best mitigation effect.

Experimental investigation for the dynamic behavior of submerged floating tunnel subjected to the combined action of earthquake, wave and current

Zhiwen Wu et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigates the dynamic behavior of a submerged floating tunnel (SFT) subjected to combined action of earthquake, wave and current. Through a physical scaled model experiment, the influence of key load parameters such as peak ground acceleration, wave height, and the combination of earthquake, wave and current on the dynamic behavior of the SFT are explored. This research has theoretical and engineering importance for the prevention and control hazard of design for the SFT.

A global review for the hydrodynamic response investigation method of submerged floating tunnels

Huaqing Zhang et al.

Summary: The main challenge in designing a submerged floating tunnel (SFT) is dealing with the complex hydrodynamic environment, especially for long span tunnels. Current analysis theories and methods are insufficient for dynamic controlling design of long SFTs, and future research should focus on developing full time-domain fluid-structure coupling mathematical models and 3D full hydroelastic model tests.

Numerical simulation and experimental study of submerged floating tunnel subjected to moving vehicle load

Yiqiang Xiang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the dynamic behavior of a submerged floating tunnel under moving vehicle load through experimental and numerical analyses. It is found that the vertical vibration of the tunnel is independent of other directions, and the connection between tubes weakens the overall stiffness. Additionally, measures such as increasing cable inclination angle and diameter can reduce deviation amplification effect caused by vehicle load.

Experimental Validation of a Nonlinear Wave Encounter Frequency Estimator Onboard a Wave-Propelled USV

Alberto Dallolio et al.

Summary: Knowledge of sea wave amplitude and frequency is important for characterizing the sea state and improving situational awareness for unmanned marine crafts. Adapting navigation control parameters according to the sea state is crucial for vehicles primarily governed by environmental forces. A nonlinear second-order observer can estimate wave encounter frequency to filter out undesired wave-induced motions, with successful experimental validation on a wave-propelled USV.
