Chirality-Intrigged Spin-Selective Metasurface and Applications in Generating Orbital Angular Momentum

Menglan Lin et al.

Summary: This article proposes a novel design of a metamirror that achieves spin-selective absorption and phase modulation by using asymmetric split-ring resonators (ASRRs) and introducing a geometric phase. Theoretical results show that the maximum absorption rate for waves of the same handedness can reach 99.34%. Experimental verification demonstrates the spin-dependent bifunctional performances of the proposed metamirror.

Generating Dual-Polarized Vortex Beam by Detour Phase: From Phase Gradient Metasurfaces to Metagratings

Kuang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel method for generating dual-polarized vortex beams by introducing detour phase and modulating phase through adjusting the position of meta-atoms. Two types of unit cells are designed to achieve specific diffraction order, enabling independent adjustment of TE and TM polarizations as well as fabrication of vortex beam generators with different topological charges. The ability to manipulate polarizations independently is demonstrated by designing generators with different polarizations in different frequency bands, showing great potential for polarization division multiplexing in OAM communication systems.

Reconfigurable acoustic metagrating for multiple anomalous wavefront manipulation functionalities

Ailing Song et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a reconfigurable acoustic metagrating composed of periodic rotatable slit tubes and a sound hard plane, which can achieve multiple anomalous wavefront manipulation functionalities including specular reflection, three-channel retroreflection, and beam splitting. By changing the rotational angle of slit tubes, the proposed metagrating can manipulate the reflectances of different diffracted waves and achieve the desired functionalities. This research provides a good method for designing reconfigurable acoustic devices with multiple functionalities and has potential applications in acoustic sensing, acoustic communication, and noise mitigation.

Non-Local Reconfigurable Sparse Metasurface: Efficient Near-Field and Far-Field Wavefront Manipulations

Vladislav Popov et al.

Summary: Metasurfaces have shown powerful abilities in manipulating electromagnetic waves, but conventional metasurfaces have limitations in efficiency due to local electromagnetic responses. The efficiency of reconfigurable metasurfaces decreases with high density of meta-atoms, prompting the implementation of sparse metasurfaces with strong electromagnetic non-local features for better performance. By experimentally realizing a dynamic sparse metasurface with as few as 8 meta-atoms per lambda(2) area, the door is opened to high-efficiency real-time reprogrammable functionalities in various applications such as beam manipulation and imaging holography.
