Advances made in removing paraquat herbicide by adsorption technology: A review

Dison S. P. Franco et al.

Summary: This review analyzed papers that use adsorption to remove paraquat herbicide from aqueous effluents, and also discussed the contamination and toxicology aspects of paraquat. It was found that silicate and carbon materials are the best adsorbents, and the most commonly used isotherm models are Langmuir and Freundlich. However, most studies did not report the pH of the solution or optimize the adsorption conditions.

Brookite vs. rutile vs. anatase: What's behind their various photocatalytic activities?

Gregor Zerjav et al.

Summary: The investigation of synthesized TiO2 polymorphs reveals that the different catalytic efficiency in the heterogeneous photocatalytic process is determined by the depths of charge carrier traps. Brookite with shallow electron traps extends the lifetime and quantity of generated holes, making it a good photocatalyst. Rutile has too deep electron traps, leading to low generation and high recombination rate of charge carriers. Anatase has a longer lifetime of charge carriers due to its indirect band gap semiconductor nature.

Construction of MOF/COF Hybrids for Boosting Sunlight-Induced Fenton-like Photocatalytic Removal of Organic Pollutants

Xiandi Guo et al.

Summary: By hybridizing NH2-MIL88B metal-organic framework (MOF) material with TpPa-1-COF through covalent bonding and utilizing Fenton-like excitation of H2O2, the photocatalytic activity of the hybrid was significantly enhanced compared to its parent MOF and covalent organic framework (COF). Summary: Contamination of natural resources by unwanted harmful chemical species is on the rise, particularly due to pesticide residues causing pollution in soil and water. Current methods for removing pesticide residues are time-consuming and not fully effective, but newly synthesized organic and inorganic compounds as well as composite materials show promising results for degradation. Utilizing semiconductor materials with electron-hole charge carrier generation and band gap optimization can enhance the catalytic efficiency for pesticide degradation.
