An investigation into the dependence of virtual observation point-based specific absorption rate calculation complexity on number of channels

Stephan Orzada et al.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the relationship between the number of channels and the computational burden for SAR calculation using virtual observation point-based SAR compression. The results show that the number of virtual observation points increases with the number of channels, and the computational burden increases exponentially with the number of channels. Therefore, it is necessary to use the best compression algorithms when dealing with high channel counts.

Deep learning-based local SAR prediction using B-1 maps and structural MRI of the head for parallel transmission at 7 T

Sayim Gokyar et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study is to predict subject-specific local specific absorption rate (SAR) distributions of the human head for parallel transmission (pTx) systems at 7 T. A multichannel 3D convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture was proposed, designed, and demonstrated to predict local SAR maps as well as peak-spatial SAR (ps-SAR) levels. The results showed that the proposed method had smaller prediction errors and could make predictions within a second, making it clinically useful.

Body-loop related MRI radiofrequency-induced heating hazards: Observations, characterizations, and recommendations

Xiaolin Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that different body-loop postures can lead to significant differences in RF-induced heating, with an increase in RF-induced heating when body-loop size increases and contact area decreases. Additionally, proximity between the body-loop center and the RF coil center can also increase RF-induced heating. It is recommended to use safe patient postures during MR examinations, use insulation materials to prevent loop formation, or place the body loop outside the RF transmitting coil.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the specific absorption rate (SAR) and temperature distributions resulting from pediatric exposure to a 7T head coil. By using electromagnetic and thermal solvers, it was found that children experience higher SAR than adults for the examined head transmit coil.
