A trans-ortho asymmetrically di-strapped metalloporphyrin integrating three key structural features of ligand in heme

Qiuhua Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a trans-ortho-di-strapped zinc porphyrin with dome-like deformation was synthesized by thermodynamically controlling the formation of trans- precursor of porphyrinogen. Its single-crystal structure revealed the unique features of creating two secondary coordination sphere (SCS) bulks, maintaining a unique dome deformation, and making atomic out-of-plane deviation. This metallic complex integrates at least three key features, making it an ideal heme analog.

Pseudorotaxane Ligand-Induced Formation of Copper(I) Iodide Cluster Based Assembly Materials: From Zero to Three Dimensional

Xuan-Hui Zhao et al.

Summary: In this work, a series of novel copper(I)-iodide clusters (CuINCs) based assembly materials, including discrete cluster CuI1 and extended cluster organic frameworks MORF1 and MORF2, were successfully obtained by combining supramolecular pseudorotaxane ligands and linkers. These materials exhibit outstanding thermochromic and piezochromic luminescence properties, making them promising candidates for novel temperature and pressure sensors.

QM/MM study on the O 2 activation reaction of 4-hydroxylphenyl pyruvate dioxygenase reveals a common mechanism for ?-ketoglutarate dependent dioxygenase

Linhui Li et al.

Summary: The dioxygen activation catalyzed by 4-hydorxylphenyl pyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) was re-investigated using hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) approaches. The reaction was found to consist of two steps, including dioxygen addition/decarboxylation and hetero O-O bond cleavage, with the first step being rate-determining. The calculated free-energy barrier value of 16.9 kcal/mol in excellent agreement with experimental data challenges the widely accepted view and provides new insights into the catalytic mechanism of α-keto glutamate (α-KG) dioxygenase and related Fe(II)-dependent oxygenases.

Ground state singlet-to-triplet conversion of copper corrole radical by $-benzo-fusion

Fan Wu et al.

Summary: Materials based on metal-radical coordination systems have potential applications for electronics and spintronics. This study reports the ground state conversion of copper corrole radicals through the extension of the zr-conjugation system by benzo-fusion. The ferromagnetic coupling between the Cu(II) center and corrole zr-radical of benzo-fused copper corrole 2-Cu is supported by NMR spectroscopy, SQUID measurements, and computational studies.

A Cobalt(III) Corrole with a Tethered Imidazole for Boosted Electrocatalytic Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Yimei Gao et al.

Summary: This study reports on the synthesis of Co-III corrole 1 tethered with an imidazole ligand and its electrocatalytic ORR and O-2 binding features. Compared to the imidazolium-free analogue, complex 1 showed significantly enhanced selective 4e(-)/4H(+) ORR activity in 0.1 mol/L KOH solutions, with a half-wave potential of E-1/2 = 0.82 V (vs RHE). Importantly, the tethered axial imidazole ligand improved the O-2 binding ability of 1 thermodynamically and dynamically, crucial for boosting electrocatalytic ORR performance. This work provides an example of enhancing the electrocatalytic ORR activity and selectivity of Co corroles by introducing an axial imidazole ligand to enhance O-2 binding and activation.

Unusual bi- and tetra-nuclear cobalt(II) bis(salamo)-based complex: Preparation, crystal structure and theoretical calculations and fluorescence properties

Li Zhao et al.

Summary: Two unusual bis(salamo)-based bis(II) complexes, [Co-2(L)(OMe)].2MeOH (1) and [Co-4(L-1)(4)(MeOH)(4)] (2), were designed, prepared, and characterized structurally. The energy gaps of the complexes were reduced compared to the ligand, and the crystal structures of the complexes were consistent with theoretical predictions. The interactions in the complexes, including H-H, C-H, and H-O interactions, were analyzed and found to be important for the construction of supramolecules.

d-Orbital Reconstructions Forced by Double Bow-Shaped Deformations and Second Coordination Sphere Effects of Cu(II) Heme Analogs in HER**

Qiuhua Liu et al.

Summary: The geometric architecture and electronic configurations of heme proteins play crucial roles in their activity. This study focused on designing and synthesizing a series of copper(II) porphyrin complexes with shortened straps to modulate molecular conformations, resulting in improved catalytic performance. By manipulating ligand geometry, a novel strategy to enhance catalytic activity of heme analogs was proposed and validated.

Qin Huang et al.

Summary: A thermo-, mechano-, and vapochromic bimetallic cuprous-emissive complex has been reported, and its luminescence mechanism and applications have been explored. The luminescence color changes are attributed to the breaking and rebuilding of the CH3CN-Cu bond and the disruption of hydrogen bonds between CH3CN and other atoms.

21-Carba-23-oxaporphyrinoids and 21-oxo-21-carba-23-oxaporphyrinoids: macrocyclic π-conjugation involving the carbonyl moiety

Anna Berlicka et al.

Summary: A rational synthesis method was used to synthesize the carba analogues of tripyrrane and 1,3-bis(arylhydroxymethyl)furan, resulting in the formation of 21-carba-23-oxaporphyrin and 21-carba-23-oxachlorin. The molecular design preserved the essential characteristics of the 21-oxaporphyrin architecture and allowed for the incorporation of a cyclopentadiene moiety. The resulting compounds showed aromatic or nonaromatic features based on their chemical structures and electronic properties.

Peipei Jiang et al.

Summary: A series of multi-(phenylthio)porphyrinato Ni(11) compounds were synthesized without transition metal catalysts, characterized by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, and HRMS, with structures confirmed by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Significant red shifts were observed in UV-vis absorption spectra, consistent with electrochemical data, and DFT calculation showed strong effects of phenylthio groups on the frontier orbitals.
