Reporting and discoverability of Tweets quoted in published scholarship: current practice and ethical implications

Summary: This study investigates the ways in which Tweets are quoted, the ethical discussions and actions taken, and the discoverability of quoted Tweets. The concerning result is that the original author can be identified in almost all manuscripts and around half of the quoted Tweets. Ethical dilemmas arising from a lack of understanding of the technical aspects of the platform are discussed, along with suggestions for promoting ethically-informed practice.
