Reattachment of Osteochondritis Dissecans Lesions in the Lateral Femoral Trochlear Ridge With Bioabsorbable Screws in 4 Yearling Standardbreds

Andrea Bertuglia et al.

Summary: This case series presents an alternative surgical technique for reattaching osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) lesions in the lateral trochlear ridge of the femur (LTRF), and evaluates the clinical and radiological outcomes of the treated cases. The surgical fixation involved using headless biocompression and absorbable poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) screws under arthroscopic guidance. Follow-up evaluations at 6 and 12 months post-surgery showed successful healing of the OCD lesions and a reduction in effusion, allowing the horses to resume regular training.

Laparoscopic cryptorchidectomy using a resorbable self-locking loop device in dorsally recumbent horses

Natacha Bonomelli et al.

Summary: This study reports the use and feasibility of a self-locking resorbable loop device for cryptorchidectomy in horses. The loop device was easily glided around the abdominal testes and achieved excellent intraoperative hemostasis. The results show that this technique provides an alternative method for equine cryptorchidectomy with minimal complications.

Histological and structural effects of biodegradable polydioxanone stents in the rabbit trachea

Rocio Morante-Valverde et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the biological effects of successive placement of biodegradable PDO stents in the rabbit trachea. The results showed that the stents did not cause significant changes in tracheal wall collagen or cartilage structure. This suggests that PDO stents may be safe and biocompatible in the long term.

Long-Term Evaluation of Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) Implants in a Horse: An Experimental Pilot Study

Julia Ribeiro Garcia Carvalho et al.

Summary: This study investigated the long-term biocompatibility and biodegradation of PLA prepared by hot pressing at 180 degrees C in horses. The results showed good biocompatibility and degradation of the material. After 57 weeks, no polymer residue was detected, and there were no significant clinical changes, indicating that PLA may be an effective carrier option for horses.

Resorbable self-locking device for canine lung lobectomy: A clinical and experimental study

Kumiko Ishigaki et al.

Summary: The study tested the feasibility of a resorbable self-locking device for lung tissue sealing in experimental dogs and dogs with pulmonary mass, with CT used to study its resorption. The results showed that the device was effective in enabling en bloc ligation of the affected lobe and that its trace on CT images gradually decreased and became undetectable at 4 months postoperatively in experimental dogs.

Use of polyamide cable ties during experimental omentectomy in adult horses with histopathological assessment

Samuel D. Hurcombe et al.

Summary: The study reported the use of nylon cable ties for omentectomy in healthy adult horses, showing that this technique led to fast and effective omentectomy without short-term evidence of inflammatory reaction or intra-abdominal adhesion. This method provides an alternative for omentectomy in healthy adult horses.

In Vivo Versus In Vitro Degradation of a 3D Printed Resorbable Device for Ligation of Vascular Tissue in Horses

Karin H. Adolfsson et al.

Summary: The research shows that the mechanical performance of resorbable 3D printed PDO devices significantly decreases after in vivo aging, with visible holes in the matrices and more linear oligomers produced, whereas these phenomena were not observed during in vitro aging. This highlights the importance of the degradation process of resorbable devices with respect to their interactions with the surrounding environment.
