However, after adjusting for illness severity, patient demographics, and overcrowding measures, the wait times for Non-Hispanic Black and other race children were largely determined by the site of care. Hispanic children experienced longer wait times within and between different sites compared with Non-Hispanic White children.

Reporting of Participant Race and Ethnicity in Published US Pediatric Clinical Trials From 2011 to 2020

Summary: This cross-sectional study examined participant race and ethnicity in pediatric clinical trials published from 2011 to 2020. The study found that reporting of participant race and ethnicity increased over time, but was still underreported. Disparities were identified in the enrollment of American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander children compared to the respective US populations. However, there was greater representation of Black/African American children in the trials, suggesting inclusive research practices that could be extended to other historically disenfranchised racial and ethnic groups.

Racial/Ethnic Disparities in Triage Scores Among Pediatric Emergency Department Fever Patients

Summary: This study examines racial/ethnic and age disparities in triage score assignment for pediatric emergency department cases reporting fever. The results show that among pediatric fever cases, temperature is the sole significant predictor of triage scores, but non-Hispanic black pediatric patients older than 1 year have a higher risk of being given a less urgent triage score compared to non-Hispanic white patients. The findings suggest racial disparities in the triage of non-Hispanic black pediatric patients for fever, highlighting the need for further evaluation in emergency medicine.
