Fluorescence detection of glyphosate based on G-quadruplex and porphyrin metalation

Huajuan Fang et al.

Summary: In this paper, a fluorescence biosensor based on G-quadruplex (G4) and porphyrin metalation was developed for detection of glyphosate (GLYP). The biosensor utilized G4 to enhance the fluorescence of N-methyl-mesoporphyrin IX (NMM) and catalyze the insertion of Cu2+ into NMM. GLYP can bind to Cu2+ to inhibit NMM metalation and recover the fluorescence. The biosensor showed great application prospects for measuring GLYP with high recovery rates in agricultural products.

Ecosystem consequences of herbicides: the role of microbiome

Suvi Ruuskanen et al.

Summary: Non-target organisms are exposed to herbicides globally, with increasing evidence showing their profound effects on ecosystem functions through altered microbial communities. This paper provides a comprehensive framework on how herbicide residues can impact ecosystem-level outcomes through changes in microbiomes. These changes in soil microbiomes can influence nutrient cycling, plant-soil processes, and trophic interactions such as herbivory and pollination, leading to ecosystem and evolutionary consequences for both microbes and hosts. Addressing the threats posed by agrochemicals to ecosystem functions and services requires a comprehensive understanding of microbe-mediated risks and the development of appropriate tools and solutions.

Recent trends on MIL-Fe metal-organic frameworks: synthesis approaches, structural insights, and applications in organic pollutant adsorption and photocatalytic degradation

Badr-Eddine Channab et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have gained significant interest for their potential applications in adsorption, photocatalysis, electrocatalysis, chemical sensing, catalysis, and gas separation. Fe-based MOFs, particularly MIL (53, 68, 88A, 88B, 100, and 101) Fe MOFs, are considered the most suitable materials for addressing the limitations of conventional water purification methods. However, the structural decomposition of Fe-MOFs under external conditions hinders their activity improvement and commercialization. In addition, the tendency of MIL-Fe particles to agglomerate when used alone in reaction environments inhibits their selectivity and capture efficiency. To overcome these challenges, various well-designed MIL-Fe structures have been developed through the synthesis of composites, heterostructures, and doping. This article provides a summary of the synthesis, structure, and recent advances in MIL-Fe structures (composites and doping) for the removal and photodecomposition of persistent organic contaminants. The main challenges, perspectives, and future directions are also discussed.
