Assessment of degradation characteristic and mineralization efficiency of norfloxacin by ionizing radiation combined with Fenton-like oxidation

Xiaoying Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that ionizing radiation combined with Fenton-like oxidation can effectively enhance the degradation and mineralization of norfloxacin. The removal efficiency of norfloxacin is significantly influenced by pH and inorganic anions. In the presence of peptone, glucose, and humic acid, the degradation efficiency of norfloxacin decreases significantly.

Hai Chen et al.

Summary: The ZIF-67-derived Co3O4-C@FeOOH composite showed efficient catalytic activity in the ozonation of norfloxacin (NOF), providing more active sites for the reaction and achieving better performance in mineralization. The presence of Fe and Co in various valence states in the catalyst improved the conversion of Co(III)/Co(II) and Fe(III)/Fe(II), enhancing the catalytic activity. Multiple intermediate products were detected, and a possible degradation pathway for NOF was proposed.

Degradation of antibiotic Cephalosporin C in different water matrices by ionizing radiation: Degradation kinetics, pathways, and toxicity

Xiaoying Chen et al.

Summary: The study investigated the radiolytic degradation of antibiotic Cephalosporin C in different water matrices using gamma radiation, revealing a pseudo first-order kinetic reaction. The degradation rate increased with higher absorbed dose and acidic conditions, and the presence of inorganic anions negatively impacted the degradation process. Addition of hydrogen peroxide and peroxymonosulfate could accelerate Cephalosporin C degradation and reduce the toxicity of intermediate products.

Effect of inorganic anions on the performance of advanced oxidation processes for degradation of organic contaminants

Jianlong Wang et al.

Summary: Inorganic anions such as chloride, carbonate, phosphate, sulfate, and nitrate have a significant impact on the performance of Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs). This influence is not solely attributed to their quenching effect, but also affects reactive species, oxidant stability, catalyst activity, and degradation products. Understanding the comprehensive evaluation of the effect of inorganic anions on AOPs is crucial for optimizing the treatment of organic pollutants.
