Summary: In this paper, a non-axisymmetric three-dimensional numerical model was developed to simulate the typical globular repelled transfer process with large droplets in underwater wet flux-cored wire arc welding. The results showed that the droplet movement was affected by multiple forces, including gravity, surface tension, self-induced electromagnetic force, gas flow, and force from metal evaporation. The simulated values from the numerical model were in good agreement with the experimental ones.

Summary: Underwater wet welding is widely used in various applications such as offshore platform maintenance and oil pipeline repair. High diffusible hydrogen content is identified as a critical factor affecting the reliability of underwater wet welded joints. This study confirmed experimentally that hydrogen primarily enters during droplet formation due to the high temperature of molten metal and the absence of slag coverage. To prevent hydrogen charging, a novel molten-slag-covering droplet transfer mode was developed, which successfully blocked the entry of hydrogen and reduced the diffusible hydrogen content to the level achieved in onshore welding (3.26 mL/100 g).

Summary: This paper presents FTIR data on arc welding fumes collected from MMA, FCAW, and MIG/MAG processes, revealing the presence of clear spectra corresponding to Na, K, and dichromates, as well as chromate species and chromium trioxide. These compounds, identified through their characteristic vibrational frequencies, were found to be volatile nanoparticles that could potentially harm welders. The presence of crystalline phases (Fe-Mn spinels) was also confirmed using powder XRD, which matched ion chromatography estimates for Cr(VI).

Summary: Weldability studies on high entropy alloys are lacking, hindering their practical applications. In this study, an as-cast Fe42Mn28Co10Cr15Si5 metastable high entropy alloy was welded for the first time using gas tungsten arc welding. The effect of weld thermal cycle on the microstructure evolution was analyzed through various techniques. The results showed the evolution of microstructure across the joint and the influence of different strengthening effects on the material's local strength. The presence of a brittle nanosized sigma phase was found to contribute to premature failure in the joints during mechanical testing.

Summary: Multi-pass steel weld metal is heterogeneous due to variations in thermal cycles, leading to variations in mechanical properties. Reheating the weld metal determines the area fraction of the reheated zone (RHZ), impacting the impact toughness. Low heat input leads to alternate layers of as-deposited weld metal (AD-WM) and RHZ, while high cooling rate results in fine acicular ferrite (AF) microstructure and high impact toughness. Increasing heat input transforms AF to polygonal ferrite (PF), reducing impact toughness. The 3G sample exhibits higher low-temperature impact toughness than the 1G sample. Higher heat input and number of layers can be detrimental to the toughness of the RHZ.

Summary: This study investigated the microstructure and properties of a welded joint obtained by laser welding using a self-developed Ti-Al-V-Mo system titanium alloy flux-cored wire as filler wire. The welded joint showed a predominance of acicular alpha' martensite in the welded metal, with the heat affected zone consisting mainly of a primary alpha(p) phase, Widmanstatten, and a few alpha' martensite and residual beta phase. The strength and elongation of the welded joint were equivalent to that of the base metal. The results suggest that the designed welding method of titanium flux-cored wire and laser wire filling is suitable for high-quality welding of titanium alloy plate.

Summary: This research explores the effects of preheating, gas-shielding, and buffering conditions on the microstructure and wear resistance of Fe-Cr-C hardfacing alloy in flux-cored arc welding (FCAW). The results show that these conditions can improve the quality, dilution, and weldability of the hardfacing weld. Buffering can combine the hardfacing and structural steel base, reducing crack and carbide precipitation. The combination of buffer and hardfacing layers affects crystallite size and fraction ratio, increasing elemental diffusions.

Summary: This study proposes a data-driven approach for fatigue performance prediction through factor analysis and physics-based analysis of the factors affecting fatigue performance using a physical model. The weights of the physics-informed influence factors on fatigue life were analyzed using the extreme gradient boosting algorithm and verified through cross-validation. The prediction results integrated into the SN curves of a deep convolutional neural network model with the weight analysis of influence factors showed better accuracy and stability compared to direct prediction and other existing prediction models. This approach can better describe and estimate the fatigue performance of welded structures due to the advantages of the deep convolutional neural network in avoiding overfitting and local optimization.

Summary: This paper presents comparative results of residual properties of S355 J2 structural steel joints made by GMAW and FCAW after fire exposure. The results show that at temperatures below 300 degrees C, the mechanical properties of the steel increase, but at temperatures above 300 degrees C, regardless of the welding process used, the properties show a detrimental trend. The increase in strength and hardness at temperatures below 300 degrees C may be attributed to strain hardening and brittleness effects. Moreover, welded connections obtained from high strength steel grade S355-J2 begin to deteriorate strength at temperatures above 300 degrees C.
