Why Solar Tsunamis Rarely Leave Their Imprints in the Chromosphere

Ruisheng Zheng et al.

Summary: Solar coronal waves, similar to tsunamis on Earth, frequently appear as bright disturbances that propagate globally from the eruption center in the solar atmosphere. Although coronal waves are often observed, their counterparts in the chromosphere are rarely detected. In this study, the coexistence of coronal and Moreton waves in inclined eruptions is presented, suggesting that extreme inclination is the key factor in answering why the chromosphere rarely bears the imprints of solar tsunamis. A proposal for the excitation mechanism of the coronal-Moreton waves in highly inclined eruptions is also provided.

Tracking the 3D evolution of a halo coronal mass ejection using the revised cone model

Q. M. Zhang

Summary: This paper aims to track the three-dimensional evolution of a full halo coronal mass ejection (CME) and uses a revised cone model to derive its morphological and kinematic properties. The results show that the revised cone model fits nicely with the observed CME and the CME exhibits changes in angle and distance over time.

Cross-loop Propagation of a Quasiperiodic Extreme-ultraviolet Wave Train Triggered by Successive Stretching of Magnetic Field Structures during a Solar Eruption

Zheng Sun et al.

Summary: Solar extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) waves are large-scale disturbances propagating outward from solar eruptions. In recent observations, a quasiperiodic wave train with an average speed of 308 km/s was observed. At least five wave fronts with a period of 120 s were identified, originating from coronal loop expansion. The observed wave train and loop expansion are consistent with the theoretical model of EUV waves.

Oscillations and Mass Draining that Lead to a Sympathetic Eruption of a Quiescent Filament

Jun Dai et al.

Summary: In this paper, a multiwavelength analysis was used to study mass draining and oscillations in a large quiescent filament prior to its eruption. The results show that the eruption of a nearby smaller filament triggered the eruption of the quiescent filament, indicating a sympathetic relationship between the two filament eruptions.

Large-amplitude Prominence Oscillations following Impact by a Coronal Jet

Manuel Luna et al.

Summary: Observational evidence suggests that coronal jets can interact with prominences, leading to large-amplitude oscillations in some areas. 2.5D MHD numerical experiments are conducted to study this process. The jets generate multiple reconnection processes, resulting in the emission of perturbations and plasma jets which cause oscillations in the prominence. The observed oscillation amplitudes and periods generally match the simulations in two different height scenarios above the parasitic bipolar region.
