The reasons dissociative disorder patients self-injure

M. Shae Nester et al.

Summary: This study investigated the reasons for self-injury among 156 clinical sample of individuals with dissociative disorders. The qualitative data identified six themes of reasons for self-injury. Results showed that the majority of dissociative disorder patients were unaware of the reasons for their self-injury urges, and their reasons for self-injury were different from those with other disorders. These findings have important implications for treatment.

Pathological Dissociation in The National Comorbidity Survey Replication (NCS-R): Prevalence, Morbidity, Comorbidity, and Childhood Maltreatment

Daphne Simeon et al.

Summary: The study aimed to examine the national prevalence of pathological dissociation (PD) in the U.S. and its association with morbidity, comorbidity, and childhood maltreatment. The findings showed that individuals with PD had poorer physical and mental health, higher comorbidity with other psychiatric disorders, and were more likely to be hospitalized. Additionally, childhood trauma significantly predicted the severity of PD. The study highlights the importance of diagnosing and treating these common and highly morbid disorders and their traumatic antecedents.
