Transient expression of cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) P6-GFP complements a defective CaMV replicon to facilitate viral gene expression, replication and virion formation

Mustafa Adhab et al.

Summary: Multiple studies have investigated the subcellular localization of the cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) P6 protein using GFP tagging (P6-GFP). These studies have been crucial in understanding inclusion body formation, nuclear transport, and microfilament-associated intracellular movement of P6 inclusion bodies for virus delivery. While it has been shown that the translational transactivation function of P6-GFP is comparable to wild type P6, it has not been possible to incorporate a P6-GFP gene into an infectious clone of CaMV, hindering the formal proof of its comparable function. This study demonstrates that transient expression of P6-GFP can complement a defective CaMV replicon, validating the relevance of P6-GFP subcellular localization studies for understanding CaMV infections.

Reticine A, a new potent natural elicitor: isolation from the fruit peel ofCitrus reticulateand induction of systemic resistance against tobacco mosaic virus and other plant fungal diseases

Delong Wang et al.

Summary: The study identified a potent elicitor reticine A from citrus fruit peel extract that demonstrated significant control efficacy against tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and induced systemic acquired resistance (SAR). The mechanism was attributed to activating the expression of several defensive genes mediated by a salicylic acid signal, highlighting the potential of reticine A for further optimization and use in pest management.

6-pentyl-α-pyrone from Trichoderma koningii induces systemic resistance in tobacco against tobacco mosaic virus

Mohamed A. Taha et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the potential of 6-pentyl-alpha-pyrone (6PP) in inducing systemic resistance in tobacco against tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). 6PP showed significant symptom inhibition at low concentrations and achieved 100% biocontrol efficacy at high concentrations. Additionally, 6PP increased proline accumulation and the activities of pathogenesis-related enzymes, as well as enhanced the expression of defense-related genes in tobacco plants.

Identification of anti-TMV active flavonoid glycosides and their mode of action on virus particles from Clematis lasiandra Maxim

Yantao Li et al.

Summary: Flavonoid glycosides from Clematis lasiandra showed potent antiviral activities against TMV with multiple modes of action including inactivation, protective and curative effects, and inducing systemic resistance. TMV-CP was an important target for active flavonoid glycosides to fracture TMV particles, suggesting the potential for controlling TMV with natural products.
