Perspective Dynamic covalent chemistry toward wearable electronics

Summary: Dynamic covalent chemistry (DCvC) has become a crucial tool for the development of smart materials. The incorporation of reversible covalent bonds into polymer networks enables the achievement of desired features in wearable electronics, such as stretchability, malleability, self-healing capability, and closed-loop recyclability. This perspective provides a summary of how DCvC influences dynamic polymer network development, discusses its applications in wearable electronics, and explores the advantages and challenges of incorporating dynamic covalent features in such devices. Future directions for utilizing DCvC in the development of wearable electronics are also discussed.

NIR-triggered dynamic exchange and intrinsic photothermal-responsive covalent adaptable networks

Summary: Fabrication of covalent adaptable networks with the combination of intrinsic photothermal responsiveness, NIR-triggered welding, multiple-shape memory, and selective shape memory recovery remains a challenge. The developed PUOUs show strong photothermal effect and can achieve rapid welding through the dynamic exchange of oxime-carbamate bonds induced by near-infrared laser. With two independent glass transition temperatures, PUOUs exhibit triple shape memory property and selective shape memory recovery in the region subjected to NIR irradiation.
