Tranexamic acid for the prevention of postpartum hemorrhage in women undergoing cesarean delivery: an updated meta-analysis

Ioannis Bellos et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis suggests that prophylactic administration of tranexamic acid is effective in lowering postpartum blood loss and limiting hemoglobin drop among women undergoing cesarean delivery. Subgroup analysis indicates that tranexamic acid has a greater effect on reducing total blood loss in low-middle income countries. Further research is needed to test its efficacy and safety in high-risk populations.

Tranexamic acid for reducing blood loss following vaginal delivery: a double-blind randomized controlled trial

Summary: This study demonstrated that intravenous administration of TXA reduced blood loss following vaginal delivery and reduced the need for additional uterotonics. However, blood loss greater than 500 was not significantly reduced.

Prophylactic tranexamic acid among women undergoing vaginal delivery to reduce postpartum blood loss and related morbidities: A systematic review and meta-analysis of 17 randomized controlled trials

Ahmed Abu-Zaid et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to systematically review and meta-analyze the efficacy and safety of prophylactic TXA in reducing postpartum blood loss and related morbidities in women undergoing vaginal delivery. The results showed that prophylactic TXA was associated with a significant decrease in postpartum blood loss and related complications, but it increased the risk of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Overall, prophylactic TXA was found to be safe and should be integrated into the active management of the third stage of labor in vaginal delivery.

Zahra Naeiji et al.

Summary: This clinical trial showed that tranexamic acid can safely decrease blood loss in women undergoing elective cesarean section, with an average reduction of 25.3%. Both intra-operative and post-operative blood loss were significantly lower in the tranexamic acid group, along with a decreased need for blood transfusion.

Summary: In a trial with women undergoing cesarean delivery, tranexamic acid treatment resulted in a significantly lower incidence of estimated blood loss greater than 1000 ml or red-cell transfusion by day 2 compared to placebo, but did not reduce the risk of hemorrhage-related secondary clinical outcomes.

Optimal use of intravenous tranexamic acid for hemorrhage prevention in pregnant women

Homa K. Ahmadzia et al.

Summary: A study was conducted to determine the optimal dose of tranexamic acid for preventing postpartum hemorrhage in pregnant women undergoing scheduled cesarean delivery. The results showed that there was no significant difference in treatment efficacy among different dose cohorts, with a proposed optimal dose of 600 mg for future tranexamic acid efficacy studies to prevent postpartum hemorrhage. The study also found that the safety of tranexamic acid in this context was confirmed by no serious adverse events and minimal transfer of the drug into breast milk.
