Transoral Laser Microsurgery With Neck Dissection Versus Radiotherapy for T2N0 Supraglottic Cancer

Bharat Akhanda Panuganti et al.

Summary: This study compared the overall survival outcomes of transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) with neck dissection versus definitive radiotherapy in patients with T2N0 supraglottic squamous cell carcinoma. The results showed that TLM was associated with better overall survival compared to radiotherapy.

Transoral Robotic Surgery for Head and Neck Cancer: Advances and Residual Knowledge Gaps

Mariam H. Mella et al.

Summary: Minimally invasive surgery, specifically transoral robotic surgery (TORS), has become popular in the field of surgical oncology for the treatment of head and neck cancer. TORS utilizes wristed instruments and a magnified three-dimensional view for enhanced surgical comfort and safety in hard-to-access areas. However, the expansion of TORS must be based on high-level evidence to ensure comparable oncological outcomes to traditional approaches. This narrative review evaluates the current role of TORS in head and neck cancer treatment and identifies remaining knowledge gaps.

Efficacy of superselective neck dissection (IIA and III) for supraglottic laryngeal cancer with clinically negative neck

Shenshan Jia et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that superselective neck dissection (SSND) removing lymph nodes in levels IIA and III is safe and effective for patients with supraglottic squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the larynx and clinically negative neck. The spinal accessory nerve function was maintained without compromising clinical outcome.

Occult Metastasis in Laryngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Daniel D. Sharbel et al.

Summary: The incidence of occult metastasis (OM) is higher in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) patients, especially in those with T3-T4 tumors. Patients with OM are more likely to develop distant metastasis, suggesting the need for more aggressive treatment strategies for these patients.

Surgical, Oncological, and Functional Outcomes of Transoral Robotic Supraglottic Laryngectomy

Stephane Hans et al.

Summary: Transoral robotic surgery (TORS) is an effective and safe treatment for supraglottic squamous cell carcinoma, with low postoperative complication rates, high survival rates, and quick return to oral diet. It can be a promising therapeutic approach for early- and intermediate-stages cancers.

The survival benefit of lymph node dissection in resected T1-2, cN0 supraglottic cancer: A population-based propensity score matching analysis

Ruihua Fang et al.

Summary: This study found that lymph node dissection (LND) is significantly associated with a more favorable prognosis in patients with T1-2, cN0 supraglottic cancer (SC). The overall survival rate was better in patients who underwent LND compared to those who did not, indicating the prognostic value of LND in these patients.
