Inverted pyramid structure on monocrystalline silicon processed by wet etching after femtosecond laser machining in air and deionized water

Qingwei Wang et al.

Summary: This study focused on improving the morphology and optical properties of monocrystalline silicon through femtosecond laser machining assisted by chemical etching. Experimental results showed that the inverted pyramid structure could be achieved by ablating the silicon surface with high or low-power lasers in air or deionized water, followed by KOH etching. The optical properties of the monocrystalline silicon with the inverted pyramid structure were effectively improved.

Ablation mechanism in underwater drilling by an ultrafast laser with pulse energy below the water breakdown threshold

Changlong Zheng et al.

Summary: An underwater percussion drilling process using an ultrafast laser with pulse energy below the water breakdown threshold was investigated to reduce heat accumulation during drilling. The effects of laser-induced plasma on energy attenuation and beam refraction were quantitatively described using a numerical model. The model can predict hole radius and depth in underwater drilling and explain differences in drilling performance in air and underwater.

Capturing the final stage of the collapse of cavitation bubbles generated during nanosecond laser ablation of submerged targets

Jiangyou Long et al.

Summary: The study examines the growth and collapse of cavitation bubbles generated during pulsed laser ablation in water, ethanol, and n-butanol. It reveals that ethanol and n-butanol undergo cavitation-induced reactions, hindering bubble collapse, while bubbles in water achieve the smallest radii at collapse, leading to sharp increases in temperature and pressure. These findings highlight the importance of chemical effects in liquids on the implosive collapse of cavitation bubbles.
