Longitudinal prospective cohort study evaluating prognosis in idiopathic intracranial hypertension patients with and without comorbid polycystic ovarian syndrome

Mark Thaller et al.

Summary: This prospective longitudinal cohort study found that the prevalence of comorbid polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in women with idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) was 20%. Patients with comorbid PCOS in IIH had an increased risk of fertility problems and the need for medical help in becoming pregnant. However, comorbid PCOS did not significantly impact long-term vision or headache outcomes.

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension: Pathophysiology, diagnosis and management

Michael T. M. Wang et al.

Summary: Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is a condition characterized by increased intracranial pressure, primarily affecting obese women of reproductive age. The pathophysiology involves disruptions in cerebrospinal fluid dynamics and venous sinus pressure. Current treatment goals aim to relieve symptoms and prevent permanent vision loss. Further research is needed to determine the optimal treatment regimen.

Update on PCOS: Consequences, Challenges, and Guiding Treatment

Kathleen M. Hoeger et al.

Summary: PCOS, a common reproductive endocrine disorder in women, presents challenges in diagnosis and treatment. The International PCOS network, jointly sponsored by ESHRE and ASRM, developed evidence-based guidelines over several years, but satisfaction with diagnosis and treatment options is low among both clinicians and patients. Recent research has highlighted important findings in diagnosis and treatment, as well as ongoing challenges in understanding and managing PCOS.
