Synthesis of MgO-doped ordered mesoporous carbons by Mg2+-tannin coordination for efficient isomerization of glucose to fructose

Junyan Fu et al.

Summary: In-situ MgO-doped ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC@MgO) was fabricated using a formaldehyde-free self-assembly method, with biomass-derived tannin as the carbon precursor and Mg2+ as the cross-linker and catalyst precursor. The OMC@MgO exhibited well-controlled mesoporous structures, high surface area, and good catalytic activity, achieving a high fructose yield with good selectivity from glucose. It also showed tolerance to high glucose concentrations and maintained recyclability.

Highly efficient rechargeable Zn-air batteries based on hybrid CNT-grafted, Co/CoS2-Fe embedded, Nitrogen-doped porous carbon Nano-frameworks

Kuo-Yung Hung et al.

Summary: Catalysts with embedded and functionalized elements play a crucial role in controlling oxygen-reduction and oxygen-evolution reactions for the development of high-performance ZABs. In this study, carbon nanotube-grafted, Co-Fe embedded, nitrogen-doped porous carbon nano-frameworks were synthesized and exhibited superior OER and ORR performance. A ZAB with a hybrid catalyst of these nano-frameworks achieved excellent discharge capacity, power density, and cycle stability compared to a ZAB with traditional Pt/C + RuO2 catalyst.

The Role of CO2 in the Oxidation-Protection of Mg-Containing Aluminum Alloys

Cathrine Kyung Won Solem et al.

Summary: TEM EDS-EELS and XPS were used to analyze disc samples of Al alloys 5182 and 6016 heat treated in an oxidizing atmosphere. It was observed that both alloys exhibited an amorphous C-C bonded layer on top of a nanocrystalline MgO layer, which prevents further oxidation of Mg in the 5182 alloy and breakaway oxidation in the 6016 alloy.

Isomerization of glucose to fructose catalyzed by metal-organic frameworks

Marta Lara-Serrano et al.

Summary: The isomerization reaction of glucose to fructose was studied using five selected metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as catalysts, where MOF with chromium showed the highest yield of fructose. A comparison between different MOFs indicated that MIL-101(Cr) had a higher fructose yield in a shorter reaction time. The stability of MIL-101(Cr) was confirmed through multiple recycling tests with minimal loss of activity, exhibiting excellent fructose yields.
