Summary: Using panel data from 11 provinces in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, this study explores the spatio-temporal differentiation characteristics and driving forces of coupling coordination of urban land and water resource utilization efficiency. The results indicate that the utilization efficiency of both resources was low, with a mild disorder and transitional coupling coordination degree. There was a decreasing spatial distribution from downstream to midstream to the upstream region. Additionally, per capita GDP, employment labor force, and fixed assets investment were found to be important drivers for the coordination development, while government and total population had a negative impact.

Summary: China is facing serious water scarcity and improving water resources from the perspective of resource endowment, economic development, and water infrastructure is crucial for sustainable water development. This study constructed two index systems to evaluate water supply capacity and water infrastructure construction level. The results showed spatial heterogeneity in both water supply capacity and water resource utilization efficiency. Water supply capacity was positively correlated with water resource accessibility and GDP per capita, while water resource utilization efficiency was positively correlated with GDP per capita but negatively correlated with accessibility. The study also found regional variations in the relationship between water infrastructure construction level and accessibility and GDP per capita. Strengthening water conservancy construction is an effective way to improve water supply, and suggestions were provided based on different accessibility and economic conditions to promote the sustainable development of water resources.

Summary: This study examines the water resource utilization efficiency of 14 cities in Gansu Province, China, using an SBM-undesirable model. The results show that there is a significant gap in water resource utilization efficiency among cities in Gansu Province. The overall regional differences in efficiency generally exhibit a pattern of increase and then shrinkage, while inter-regional differences show an upward trend. The study also finds that the water resource utilization efficiency in three regions has a divergent distribution pattern, with a decreasing degree of differentiation. The conclusions and suggestions provided in this study contribute to improving the sustainable development of urban water systems.

Summary: In the context of climate change, improving water resource utilization efficiency is important to alleviate the increasingly serious problem of water scarcity. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) are commonly used for evaluating water resource utilization efficiency. However, using only one method cannot consider the influence of both objective and subjective factors. This study proposes a water resources utilization efficiency index (WEI) that combines both DEA and AHP methods to evaluate the water resources utilization efficiency in the Tumen River Basin (TRB). The results show an upward trend in WEI values for most areas in the TRB between 2014 and 2019, indicating improvements in water use efficiency. Technical efficiency is identified as the main factor influencing water use efficiency in the TRB. This study provides a basis for water resource management and mitigation of water scarcity in the context of climate change.

Summary: With urbanization and industrialization, there is a growing scarcity of water resources, and the construction of sewage treatment plants can ensure their sustainable development. This paper focuses on a municipal sewage treatment plant in Changchun and proposes an evaluation method using the improved Best-Worst Method (BWM)-fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method to assess its safety. The evaluation index system is constructed based on four factors: human factors, material factors, environmental factors, and management factors. The weights are calculated using the improved BWM and the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method is used for safety evaluation to determine the safety level.
